Console problems with original and legal backup issue

First of all 'lo all !

I wish to inform you that original game ( chinese version ) does not work
on my v7 - spch 39004 with MARS2 mode chip.
On v10 with MARS3, works like a charm.
On the other hand, making a legal backup copy on DVD9 media ( yes i like to have
a backup of the precious game ) is not possible probably 'cause of protection.
It loads PS2 logo, "be a safe driver" disclaimer and than screen goes black.
If you load origigi game, and swap it with backup that doesn't load, it works untill reset.

So i want to say it's a damn shame that so long awaited game is not working with older versions of console, and further more it's impossible to make a legal backup.
Sony, once again, have no shame of ripping loyal customers.

I'm going to by a new console right this moment, you bloody Sony extraprofiteers.

Sorry dude, but there is no such thing as "legal backup" in world of video-game industry.

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo won all the cases toward that special issue, no matter of the points of other side.

And just for the further info, making a PS2 "backup" haven't been a problem so far, but as the making a backup for Xbox or GC is a pure drive towards the reverse engeneering, which is recognized as a criminal act in all countries.

The fact you can easily burn single-layered PS2 game doesn't mean it is legal. It just means they allowed it - not officialy - because of some internal sell-policy reasons.

Only thing that can be shamefull is the fact that GT4 will not play on some older versions of the consoles.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I was worried about this since I have an SCPH10000, but it works fine (so far :)).

O.K. legal or not, I want to make a backup and keep it with no intention what so ever, to dispatch it arround.
My point is to inform people over here if they wanted to do such.
And as far as older cons. issue that is "SO Sony".
And to be clear, I don't support piracy !

Masterburner - If you want to make a back up copy of a game you paid for, then make a back up copy. Ignore what anyone else says about it being legal or not. PD/Sony are NOT going to be knocking on your door anytime soon, I promise you.

If however people start making "back up copies" of a game and selling them, then you might get caught.

I have never heard of a legal case where someone "backed up" one game.

Ofcourse, because there was never one.

But there were cases in USA and Australia few years ago were some groups were trying to make Sony and Microsoft to allow their games to be "backuped". Those cases were dropped very soon because companies proved that software-copying is violating issues of reverse engeenering processes.

It was matter of public laws and Customer Rights.
 
So does that mean when the US version is released, my ps2 won't be able to load it because it is DVD9? I have the original Japanese version with a modded v4 ps2, and it's having problems reading it. Other imports work fine.
 
On a legal note, purchase of a piece of software or music doesn't actually buy you the hardcopy. It buys you the licence to use one copy of the contents. Thus backing-up a CD/DVD is totally legal, so long as you don't run it and the original at the same time on different machines.

Downloading the contents - provided that they are the exact contents - is also legal if you've purchased a single licence. Thus you can happily download music to which you own masters to play in your car. Again, with the above caveat.
