I custom built my very first 2 rigs cheaply out of PVC, plywood and piping brackets. I gave up the custom route due to the weight, size and difficulty of getting a good driving position, and wanted to get a consumer rig, ie. Playseat, rSeat, Obutto, Gamepod, etc. I still have this racing seat from my last build:

I've noticed a lot of rigs bolt to the seat from the side where this one has front mounts. Which rigs are most compatible with real seats? Do I need to install side mounts? Thanks gtplanet.

The seat graphic you have linked looks like a Scat Pro Car Sportsman Pro Seat or a variation of it.

This seat has 4 hard points on the bottom for mounting. It does not have side mounts.
Most, but not all real conventional car seats that recline are mounted from the bottom.

Most real race seats mount from the side and have high side bolsters.

Some retail rigs that use the same side mount scheme for real race seats include rSeat, Human Racing Chassis and Vision Racer V.3.

On the other hand, rigs such as Playseat, Gamepod, RaceRoom have faux racing seat sides that actually mount to the underside of the seat. Your seat will probably require some kind of adapter for mounting to them.

Some rigs that use bottom-mounting conventional car seats include rigs such as the Bob Earl, Sim Seats, and VRC 1000.

The Real Race Seats thread here in GTP's hardware section might also be useful reference for you.

Links to the above-mentoned rigs can be found here at GTP on the Wheel Stands, Racing Rigs Cockpits, Pedals, Wheels. Master List thread.
