Control During a Drift

Hi,

I can manage to get drift going but was wondering how exactly do i control the drift?

I know you use throttle and countersteer, but what i want to know is:

If during a drift i have full throttle and i ease of slightly how will this affect the drift.

Same with Countersteer, if i have full lock and i ease of slightly how will this affect the drift?

Also entering a corner i start to get the back end of the car to step out but instead of the car going towards the apex of the corner it carries on and slides straight onto the grass, how can i stop this?

Do i need to steer into the corner before applying the throttle to get the rear to step out?
Because at the moment im driving straight, then I turn and press the throttle together.

Hope that makes sense.

Cheers

Read the drift reference and the main sticky in this forum, practice, then come back and ask the questions.

This question has been asked many times and there's nothing wrong with it. However, it would be good to read and apply what has been posted before asking yet again.

This makes you slide less (assumeing RWD). The less throttle during a drift you have, the less you slide sideways, thats the easiest way to explain it that I can think of. Think of it this way, when you are at a stop and are revving the engine, then drop the clutch, your tires spin and have a lot less traction. that's almost basically what you're doing when drifting except you're doing it at a higher speed and into a turn. The more throttle the less traction you have.

The more countersteer, the more you are trying to swing your car in the other direction. Your rear wheels (assuming rwd) will eventually regain control and traction (unless you spin out of control) this is when you want to ease off whatever counter steer you may have.

It really sounds like you arent using the corrent angle, and possibly going too fast. try entering the corner from the outside of the turn and swing it towards the clipping point. It does take practice so dont expect to get it right the first time. You should really master "grip racing" before attempting a drift. Its easier to do so in Gt4.

It depends on how you're drifting or what kind of turn you're drifting into. Normally you would like to have the car either sideways, or somewhat sideways before the start of the turn.
