I'm not sure if this the right place, but this may effect the way DS2 guys perform.

Now here I am, playing GT while using the default controller settings, and I get to thinking; Could there be a better way to play?
After some brief experimenting I fould that setting the acc. on R2, break on L2, upshift on Circle, and downshift on Triangle, the controls are much more responsive.

Does anyone else use a custom setting like this, or do most just use the default?

I just use the default. I'm accustomed to the 'square for brakes, and x for gas' setup. It's like that with nearly every driving game I've owned. But to each their own, I guess. :)

When I used the DS2 I only used the default settings - analog control sticks for steering and acceleration, R buttons for shifting.

Your settings may be much more responsive, but I find that the analog sticks are much more precise.

I use

up: gas
down: brake
left analog stick: steer
upshift: R2
downshift: L2
look back: L1
nitrous: R1
handbrake: O
reverse: triangle
change camera: select

I find that the best since I hardly use handbrake.

If I use a DS2, I use this exact same setup! Works great!

@ Filizola: You may want to change your sig, I think there is a six lines limit on these forums.

Lets see mines::

D-pad down :: Change view
Left analog :: steering
X :: Accel
O :: Look back
[_] :: Brake
/\ :: Reverse
R1 :: Handbrake (i use it for powersliding in my auto 4wds)
R2 :: Nitro
L1 :: Shift up
L2 :: Shift down

I toyed with other configs but I perfer this one the most, thinking of tweaking mine like this::

O :: Shift down
[_] :: Shift up
L1 :: Brake
L2 :: Look back

Though this is just for trying to drift better, going to experiment later maybe if I can be bothered since I'm trying to use manuals now.

::Update::

Right I tried the tweak, didn't feel entirely right to me, infact made it a bit more difficult for me. Shes now set at::

L1 :: Shift down
R1 :: Shift up
L2 :: Look back
R2 :: Nitro
O :: Hand brake
[_] :: Brake (from my orginal settings)

Feels more comfortable as i never liked using buttons on the 2's for shifting and with the way my trans is I can shift faster. Though if you really want to change from defualt its always best not to go too far out there in set ups for example in FPS' on the pc about 2 years back my config was like this (this is an example mind you though it was my config) now its defualt though. (WSAD)

A :: Strafe left
G :: Strafe right
R :: forward
F :: Backward
E :: Crouch

Right... time to get ready for work experience... at least I'll be in my lan ^_^

The main reason I switched the accel/brake to R2/L2 is that I found that to be the easiest way to go accel to brake back to accel'ing out of a turn. I was wondering if anyone else has tried this setting out to see if they felt the same way.

The Xbox way isnt it?

I personally hate that control. :indiff:

when i use my DS2 i use default, but i do the shifting with L1 & R1 instead of L2 & R2......
Exactly as I do, I find it takes so much less effort to change gear like this.

I could not possibly change the throttle from one of the 4 right-zone buttons - they're so responsive with experience, and as it is I never have any problem with throttle control. And I drive with no aids, at all, ever, with some very powerful cars! :)

I agree that the right analogue stick is easier to use for controlling the throttle precisely, but it feels a lot less realistic and I couldn't use it in racing. I'm a creature of habit, I guess, but my controls are very good for me.

By the way, this should probably be in the general GT4 section rather than car tuning. 👍

Very big true,but i think that worth only when you slide with analog stick,not moving it move by move,that how i use it,slide:tup:

I put the handbrake on R1 so it's easier to use while holding the X accelerator.

I also put the ghost toggle back to 'select' like the old versions :)

I had thought about moving the handbrake, but my thumbs are big enough that I can hold both X and O :p or failing that, I can use my right index finger on O instead.
I had considered that too, but I decided to leave the Ghost Toggle on the D-Pad because it's easier to get to without having to reach over the left stick, potentially knocking it
