So many of you know I work at a Mazda/Subaru dealer here in STL as a new car prep/get ready/porter what not. I get to drive all of the different Mazdas and Subarus around the parking lot, but how much fun can you have at a maximum of 20mph?

Yesterday we had to take a MDX trade in or something(didn't hear the full story on it other than the paint job was crappy) to a local Acura dealership. First I was excited to get to go on a little driving adventure, but thought I'd be stuck driving the MDX or some used car or possibly my 323. So the guy I work with was talking to one of the sales people and came out with keys to the guy's RX-8 demo. I expected him to take the RX-8, but for some reason he seemed to want to drive the MDX(?!). So that left me behind the wheel of the 197hp RX-8 automatic(hey, admittedly I can't drive a stick...well I can, but I've never done it on the streets).
So here I am driving the GT-looking RX-8(has the 18" wheels). Do you think I just babyed it around? No, not really. I floored it many times on the way there and on the way back...unfortunately it was in rush hour traffic for part of it, but on the highway it was moving pretty well. Had the car up to 91mph. Also showed up some ricers and got a lot of looks and laughs(cause I look younger than I am, and also a lot of people had thier windows down so I would be next to them and floor it so they could hear the rotary power). I also did a 0-65 or so run from a stop light, that was awsome.

So what have you driven?
Doug need not reply with his Cheyanne...

I've driven a 2002 Corvette Z06 before which was pretty fun to drive. Also I've tried my hand at a 1998 Viper GTS and a Benz SL500. My favorite to drive was the Z06 by far.

1986 Cadillac El Dorado Brougham Continental Convertible. White with red leather. White top. It was my roommate's. That was a pretty damn pimp car.

The second coolest car I've driven is probably the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S.

But the Caddy was pretty awesome... until it threw a rod :(

I've driven a Lamborghini Espada, a Porsche 928, and a Maserati Bora. I've driven a Shelby GT350 and a '70 GTO Judge and a 455-powered Corvair and a Shelby Charger. I've also done a few laps in a Showroom Stock-prepped Neon ACR.

Yeah, a real one. I didn't really get to get on it much, and the clutch chattered like mad on the launches, but it was Pretty Darn Cool to drive.

They arent anything special as to supercars, but I did get to drive my friends EVO VIII around town, that was a dream come true for me. Also around here at the dealership, Ive had the chance to drive a couple Prowler's and Crossfires around the streets.

my brother got to drive his friend's Mercedes sl55 AMG. I knew I should have gone with them to Niagara Falls. But noooo, I had to stay at home because I didn't know any of the people my brother was going with :irked:

Well. . . Back in my first years of college a buddy of mine in Fort Lauyderdale ran an Exotic Rental company right off of SE 17th street for those that know Fort Lauderdale : ). Well, here is the list from that shop. . . A Diablo, Porsche Slant Nose, Ferrari 308 GTB, Testarossa and a Viper . . . Besides that, ran a beautiful 69 Camaro Uni-body Dragger down at Bithlo in Orlando along with a 69 Chevelle SS, both dynoing over 500hp : ). Of Course you have to include the Miata, no car was as fun as that one : ). Also had the chance to drive a Porsche 928 S4 and learned to drive in a 1992 300ZX Twin Turbo : ).

I drove a 993 Turbo, and got to sample a 996 C2 around Mosport a couple of years ago.

Coolest car I've ever sat my butt in but didn't get to drive: Jaguar XJ220.

Definitely the aston martin vanquish. But the lotus esprits (both 4 and 8 cyl) were really cool, if not a little...constrained. The aston martine DB7s were also very nice.

A 1987 Porche 911 targa.

At 17, my dad was looking at a cheap Porche and did manage to find one. I only tried it out on the test drive.

Very, very nice car.

Westfield FW400 driven around an old airstrip, never had so much fun before in my life.

What I would like to know is how come so many people here all seem to own or drive exotics or expensive cars? I can understand some like VippFREAK driving a Viper at that racing school, it's like the number of Metro readers letters that all seem to come from L1 post codes.

It seems to be peculiarly American. In the UK we all start off with a NoCorSaxPunFies106tatoosava. In the US the entry level car for a 17 year old seems to be 400hp+

I got in the Metro once. Someone claimed it was impossible for Knight Rider to drive into the back of the truck up the ramp, and someone else claimed that a 50mph car driving into a 45mph truck would suddenly be doing only 5mph. I pointed out that it was perfectly possible - and relatively easy - in a RWD car, since you just hang the irrelevant nose wheels on the ramp until you're ready to drive in, but you still have to brake from 50mph as the wheels don't care what surface is going underneath them.

Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 The Dougs of the world will appreciate it, at least.

When I lived with my Dad during my Jr. and Sr. years of High School, I drove his 1963 Studebaker Avanti R3. It's a 2+2 coupe (preceeding the Mustang) with a Studebaker 289 V-8 breathing with a Paxton blower; ~400 gross HP in a High School kid's hands. Cool cars and rare too.
Its first registered owner was Sherwood Egbert (Pres. of Studebaker at the time). It left the factory as Avanti #25 (V.I. Number 63R1025) and a stock R2. Sherwood Egbert had the car shipped to Paxton Products in Southern California for extensive engine modifications to become a prototype for the R3. The cylinder heads on this car are the only two known to exist in their configuration. Hot Rod Magazine had the car in the June 1963 edition and this guy by the name of Granatelli took the car out to the Salt Flats for some high speed runs; Studebaker was interested in setting factory sedan records and ultimately got an Avanti to 200 MPH.

Fast-Forwarding to today, bypassing my '88 Escort GT and customized '80 Rabbit; I've got a mostly stock, original 1983 Rabbit GTI that's a hell of a lot of fun. And when it's done, my 1969 Corvette Stingray is more than a handful but is an awesome kick to drive.

I've also gotten to drive a Ferrari 308 GTB from the California/Oregon border to the East S.F. Bay Area (Walnut Creek) by way of Nevada. I can't wait to get my Vette back on the road again.

The most fun car I've ever driven (for a short time) are stacked by rank: [as of 05/11/2004]

#1-2004 Honda [AP2] S2000
#2-Acura RSX Type-S
#3-Subaru Forester 2.5 XT
#4-1992 Acura Integra GS-R (except this one)
#5-Mazda 3 2.3 5-door
#6-Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon

It's Cayenne. :(

I do like my Cayenne but I wouldn't put it on my top ten - but then again, I've got particularly strange tastes. Driving an Acura NSX across the country is probably the standout, though.

That we will - quickest midsize SUV ever!

Dark red Subaru Outback wagon. Everybody knows how teh cool that is. And anyway, its clutch is a pain in the arse – That should be enough to consider it a "cool" car.

Single seat Formula Ford racing car. Fast? Put it this way, my pants weren't brown when I got in the cockpit!
