Im burning like crazy trying to get important files onto a cd and just install it on my second computer so I copied my Microsoft Word to a cd so I can install it on my gaming rig but im still waiting for the video card and psu, so I went into Nero and selected to burn word. Is there a better way to do it because I have a feeling it burned just the shortcut or something lol. How can I burn office which I do have on this computer onto a cd to be installed on my other computer. Like im asking to I open the office folder and just burn the folder onto a cd? For example I opened the microsoft office folder and it has, media, office 10, stationery, and templates.Because I just went on desktop and copied the word icon so thats why i think it didnt copy the whole thing. Im a little confused ha. Or since I have a lot of files on this computer that I would like to be transfered to my other comp should I buy one of this usb sticks? Is it pretty easy to use them?

**Edit** Copied all of the office folders and it says it will take 200mb on the blank cd, so does that seem like its the whole program?

Since, you are copying Microsoft, I take it, you don't have a Microsoft Office cd, which means you are illegally using Microsoft Word.

Shame.

As you don't seem to have the Office CD, are you trying to illegally copy a version of Word that you illegally installed onto one PC and illegally copy it over onto another PC?

And anyway, that won't work. There will probably be Office components scattered all over your hard disk in numerous different folders.

You would have to find all of the files for Office in your windows folder and in your program folder, and most likely your documents and settings folder if you are using XP. It won't work just to copy the program file as said above. You need the original file you extracted the files to install word from.

I needed to do a project and needed microsoft word. My dads friend came and said he has office and installed it for me so thats "illegal"? This was like more than a year ago when I bought an hp computer and didnt have word on it. Oh well I'll just buy it. But thanks for time :) .

Yeap, that's illegal distribution of software.

Yes, I got the hint, if its not available then it must be illegal :guilty:

wew, microsoft office can be pricey, but on my new computer i'll have the original in there and erase the illegal office on here before I give it to a relative, sound good? 👍
You're obviously a student. Just a heads up, the full student version sells for under $200 or so Canadian or $150 USD. This is the full version of ms office with all the features you'll need. You'll be paying less than half the cost of the standard version this way :).

If that's too pricey, check out Open Office and Star Office. Open office is completely free and Star Office should have a free student edition floating around somewhere. Both application suites are 100% compatible with all ms office files (other than access).

Thanks, yeah that student version I could buy, price seems reasonable. I see it all over the place so I could get it. Thanks again emad.

**Edit**- found one at newegg for $125, i'll get it next year with money off of relatives :) . Microsoft Office Standard 2003 Student and Teacher - RETAIL $125.

If you just need it for typing reports, essays, letters, etc. then don't bother paying cash for Word. As already mentioned, OpenOffice is a completely free office suite. Use it unless there's some reason why you have to use Word.
