I backed up the data file from gt5 ver.206 and tried copying to another ps3 using gt5 and same logon name, buts i still get the error MSG that data used by another user cannot be copied.
So how do I back up my older ps3 overheeheating piece of sh&$) to the new 250gb ps3 console, and still be able to use the Sam ebackup data from my older ps3 gt5?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Are you using a save backup from a USB stick? That's the only way I believe? Don't think a hdd transfer will work?

I think you have to to the PS3 data transfer utility. It will transfer your system info over to the new console. Things like username origin and everything associated with it will go over. No files are transferred, just authenticity.

Things like game data (and most saves) are stuck to one machine, so even if you use the same login, its still not where the username originates from. You can however, transfer your save data, it will work on any system you login to.

If the login name and the PSN name aren't correct, the data won't work.

Yes.

No. He's talking about save data ("user data") not the game install, though it's by no means clear.

The PS3 login name AND the PSN ID must be identical on both machines. Then it's simply a case of backing up the Save Data Utility GT5 file on a USB drive from one console and restoring it to the Save Data Utility folder on the second console.

Yes, I have two PS3s that I run the same gamesave on. I do this transfer quite often, but less often these days as the second one doesn't have any DLC and I have to recreate the thumbnails when moving it back to the first console.

There's another possibility y'all have missed...the directory structure.

Copy your original save to a safe place, and look at the file tree. it's gonna go "PS3/SaveData/USBD***********" at least if you're using an US version. The *'s are a seemingly random alphanumeric string. Now make a new save file on your new machine and copy to a different usb drive and check the tree. If the string on the new machine is different, manually change the directory name on your original save using your pc to match your new ps3's save location.

Hope that makes sense, it's early ;)

If it's not correctly located in the directory it will not be found. That's a different error to:

i still get the error MSG that data used by another user cannot be copied.

Which implies he's either copying the wrong file (the backup) or that his PSNID is not the same.

Or it's a different game.

I've done this twice and it worked fine. I created my existing account on the new PS3 and installed the game. Then I copied my save file to the new machine and started the game. My data was correct except I had to recreate the thumbnails.

I believe that you either copied the wrong file or don't have the same account.

I have four PS3's and this almost always happens when I want to replicate an account.

What you need to do is: On the new PS3, create a new user with the same name and PSN account. then start a NEW GT5 game and log in. Quit game and overwrite save via USB, and you won't get the message ''this data is from another user''
