This has probably been said before, but a quick search didn't come up with anything...

My game has frozen 3 times today during loading, each at different times. After a while it unfroze itself, but for the 3rd time, it's been frozen for about 30 minutes and the HDD access light is still on. I'm afraid I'm going to end up losing my data again. :nervous: I was at Level 25 on my first game, then this happened and I lost everything, I restarted and I'm at Level 29 now. I just got a Formula GT and some other great race cars that I've wanted for a while now, too.

What can I do to safely turn off the system without losing everything? I'm on a fat 60GB and it's getting really warm... :nervous:

Because of this problem, I may just have to wait until the save files can be backed up. Is there any word about when this might happen?

Thanks

This is one problem that the XMB backup function will actual give you protection for. I'd recommend going to best buy and getting a cheap usb drive that will fit all your PS3 stuff. I've already used the backup to copy my game save to a new HDD I put into my PS3 (has to be on the same PS3 for copy protected stuff).
Strange that your HDD light is on, I'd say you may just have to let it wait if you don't want to lose stuff. However if you can exit via holding the PS3 button and quitting the game you should be fine.
For future freezing, is your internet connection enabled on the PS3? That tends to cause this type of freezing quite a bit, not sure it that is your issue though.

You cant copy the GT5 Gamesave file.

Backing up and copying are too different things. If you backup your system it will also backup your save.

You can use the backup utiliy on the XMB itself.
Just get a extarnal USB harddrive.

It'll take a while but it works....

Anyone know if we can back them up thoe somehow? I have lost my game save and hate for it to get me again. If I build a home made HDD cage , box or whatever could i then attach it with USB to PS3 and then be able to back-up all data on PS3 to the HDD Box?

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Try using the XMB backup utility and transfer to an HDD.

I have a 32Gb USB stick. My system is a US 80Gb BC machine (my UK 60 Gb BC machine having given up the ghost a few weeks before GT5). There is not a huge amount of stuff on the HD (it was all on my UK machine as I had upgraded to 250 Gb) so it took about 30 minutes after going into System and using the Backup Utitlity. The save took up 14 Gb. Trouble is I have been buying cars since doing that (last night) so really need to do another backup!! Maybe over breakfast...

I cant back up now. Seems GT crashing has messed up my file system. I get error 8001002A when I try to back up. Im trying to do the restore function thing with 3 bleeps while holding the power button but thats not having it either. cant just copy the save game over either. All that grinding over again by the looks. Anyone have a rope handy? Its not just GT Im halfway through Assasins Creed brotherhood too. Looks like ill be getting my moneys worth. LOL. My advice back up now while you can!
