Copying data from old PS3 to new PS3

Hey guys

I got a PS3 that seems to be on the way out cos it just shuts off unexpectedly. I am able to turn it back on but it'll just shut off again.

I want to get a new PS3 and transfer the data across. If I am transferring the data from the old to the new and the old one shuts off during the transfer, will this damage my new PS3?

Copy the data to a USB Stick, that way, once it's off the old PS3, you don't have to bother with that PS3 again.

It takes seconds, anyway.
