I brake late into a corner I know this makes me use a late apex and also gives me a poor exit speed. When in brake early I tend to lose to much speed and need to gas it through the apex some times making me spin.I was just wanting to know if there was a car or corner that make you follow the early brake early apex rule.I know I can be faster using this method,I just need to work on it a bit.I used the search button but didn't find any info about a good car to practice with.

any mid powered FR on that corner will do... too much pwr and u spin :)

i was a bit worried about the topic tho, as i know little about corning ;)

Well, you have two ideas kind of stuck together in you head, and they don't necessarily relate directly.

Late braking is just what it says. Clear enough.

Late apex, though, just means you touch the apex of the turn after the midpoint of the corner. Early apexing means you touch it before. But that doesn't relate directly to your braking points.

What you want to do is brake early and apex late. This allows you to get most of your rotation done early in the corner, so that the later part of the corner is done on as gentle a curve as possible, allowing you to accelerate more and exit the turn faster.

What controls are you using? The buttons were way too hard for me to get any sensitivity with, so I switched to having the right analog stick be gas/brake after about 1 hour of playing, and never looked back. Sometimes it's better to coast through the apex, or to feed the throttle in slowly, to avoid spinning.

For a suggestion, try this for practice. Buy an RX-7 RS, put T2 tires on it, but don't make any other mods. Then practice at SS R5. Most of the turns there are simple, with a few combinations, and the walls make it easy to judge your track position. Concentrate on being smooth and avoiding tire squeal.

As you approach a turn, get as far over to the outside as you can, and keep one eye on the gear indicator. There is a little number next to it, which is the suggested gear for the upcoming turn. That starts to blink at the braking point for the next turn. Practice braking when the light flashes, then feeding the throttle back on as you turn in. You should be able to accelerate through the inside apex and let the car track out toward the outside wall again. When you get the line right, you'll be amazed at the speed you can carry.

Good luck!

nice explanation... couldn't have been said any better

I've found that a great corner to practice this on is the hairpin in the Roadster Enduro. With such a low powered car, and early brake and late apex amounts to huge time benefits due to the hill directly after the hairpin.

Also the Hairpin at Midfield in the Stock S2000 LM car. again, because you're in a low powered car climbing a hill after the slowest corner on the track.

i just tried these methods and they worked wonders for me...thanks

yea the best practice for me is to get a stock rwd or 4wd car and practice, its simple outsdide right before the corner inside on the corner, outside after the corner. also you migh want to try and reduce the weight of the car, and upgrading suspention, while keeping the car stock

I know they are no fun for some of us/you, but the license test are the best way to learn techniques like this.

Just go and do you license where ever there is a turn. Don't worry about the bs straight line braking test, go straight to the turns. However, don't jump into full lap scenerios, there are too many places to lose time on a full lap and you will never learn if you are doing something right.

So do something like all of the test for I-B and I-A, after that I promise you will be better with all of your techniques.

All of this stuff melts together... focusing on early braking will be just one of the things you have to do if you wanna beat the viper gts at the laguna corkscrew. Fortunately for you, doing these test will also let you concentrate on all other aspects of racing, so just keep working at it and good luck.

btw, If I was gonna do hot laps to practice what your talking about, I would do the various time trials as well... those cover everything from der alta's miata at trail mtn to the rgt at complex string.

Just trust me, if you can work on time trials and license testing until you can get gold on most (if not all), then you will be a great racer. (or if your great now... you will be a greater racer.)

Good luck.

I agree, the license tests made a world of difference for me. They educate you on how to properly excecute a turn / corner for maximum speed on exit, which is the most important.

I thank you all :) I'm happy to see some of the fast guys helping out the slower guys get faster, with out any negitive posts. Thanks again

cant wait to see how i compare to other people in online races in gt4

to help you with the problem of spinning out just drive tha apex correctly, but dont use full power when going through the corner, i suggest using the joysticks if you are not already (it makes it easier to control the power).

I think I found part of my problem,I took 3 races in arcade mode hard Trail Mountain using a Vette Z06.The best I could do was 3rd then I started looking further and further down the track as i drove,on the 4th race I keep my eye up the track as far as I could see and I smoked the AI, race 4 was very smooth with no wall contact.
I hope you all under stand what I'm tring to explain
