In the December 2005 issue of Road & Track, they compared these two cars and concluded that the Z06 was better. If you look on page 5 of the article above, it appears that the Z06 smashed the Viper in almost every area. But, despite its difficult handling on normal roads, they said the Viper emphasized its manly, muscle car roots well and was a more entertaining (though slower) track car.

I would have the Z06, since it looks better to me, is cheaper and performs better. What about you?

I don't want that nasty truck in disguise. Z06, please.

I read that article, and was very surprised by each car's behaviour. They went against everything I've ever heard about either car (The Viper is supposed to be very difficult to drive, and the Vette is supposed to be much more composed). Very strange.

I think it's scary how similar the two cars look in the main photo - if you didn't know what they were you could be forgiven for thinking that one was an upgraded version of the other (but which one is the upgrade of the other?)

I'll take the 'vette thankyou.

I'll admit that the Z06 is a far superior machine, but in all honesty, the Viper is the one that is going to get you the girl at the end of the day.
Plus, everyone knows that 10 cylenders under the hood adds 6 inches in your pants.

The Viper. A great track day car and a car to be unique in.
I don't need the ultimate track car(though maybe I should for the money I'd be spending).

But also, I don't want to discover even more of the bumps in Dallas. According to R&T, the new Z06 discovered bumps they didn't even know where there.
That's kinda turn down for me, and 1 reason I wouldn't push it on Texas World Speedway.

Viper
~Uniqueness
~Still a great track car (for beating those little ricers and cars at AutoCross ;))
~Smoother ride

Then again, whose to say I couldn't own both? ;)

About the Z06:
The quality of materials isn't yet up to European standards, but next to the Viper, the Z06 feels like a Bentley.

Best quote in that whole article. I'd have the Z06 in a heartbeat--if only choosing between those two. Frankly, I'd rather take the slower but much more comfortable and better looking GTO instead.

The Z06 is better, cheaper and in my opinion better looking. I've never been a Viper fan though.

Nice comparo, although I'm a viper fan I do agree that the new Z06 is such a bargain! I can't wait till the rumoured GTSR Viper comes out, then lets have the comparo.
Hey its also nice to see you back Blazin!

...C/D said similar things in their Vette/Viper Comparo. I would choose the Z06 in a heartbeat, not only because it is probably my favorite car, but with my previous expiriences with Vipers (a few rides and a drive of a '96 GTS), I would rather suffer with a slightly rougher ride than deal with a sub-par interior and the side-exhaust burns.

Z06 for me, but like mentioned, the Z06 doesn't seem to handle itself so nicely on normal roads, wehre it would be used more often.

And have you seen the Viper's interior? It's like a Uhaul truck!

What gets me about the Viper is that it has the same radio you get in a Neon. At least with the Vette you get a radio that looks different.

Then it must be one d*mn cozy Uhaul.

The Viper really only gets credit with it's extoverted styling and outrageous engine. Spend any time with the car on a regular baisis, and the truth comes out... The Viper is just for fun and cannot handle daily jobs as well as the Vette.

The Neon can get an Alpine radio and speakers with an Alpine S type Subwoofer? or did they downgrade the Viper's radio?

What daily jobs are we handling in our 65-80$K, 500HP sports cars?
Should we make our decision on towing capacity too? come on...

I'll take the Viper, it isn't a copy....(did I say that?)

I didn't realize you could get that, I've just seen pictures of the inside of a Viper and the radio look identical to that of my buddies Neon.

Uhaul stylin', especially if you don't get the metal trim.

Wow and people honestly complain about the Vette's interior.

:odd: So what... the radio is the same in practically all GMs too...

Not so much any more, they got away from that. Sure you'll still find the same radios in some, but you aren't going to get the Cobalt radio in a Corvette. I would've thought Dodge would have at least put something most appealing in the center of the Viper's console. If I'm going to but an 80,000 dollar car...that is how much a Viper is right?...I want a nice looking radio damn it! Now if you bought the GTS, which I assume is more of a track based Viper then sure it makes sense to have a sub par radio.

I have always been a Viper fan and never a Corvette fan BUT.. this new C6 Corvette is one wicked performing and looking machine. I would take that over the Viper mainly because of the same reason you listed. Its cheaper, better looking, and it would get better gas mileage. Not that I really care about gas mileage.
I would still love to have either car. :)

Z06 for me as well (assuming we are talking about the C6).

By chance I picked up a "road and track" at the barber shop a few days ago.
Sure enough, this exact comparison was laid out (along with a host of others that were interesting).

I wasn't suprised to see that "R&T" had rated the Z06 as the better car.
Performance was better based on their testing.
On a personal level, I would also preffer to buy a Chevy over a Dodge.

Finally, the real kicker for me is just the fact that the Viper looks like it should be a super car with super car performance, etc etc... The Vette on the other hand, doesn't look all that outlandish. The styling of the vette is way better than the viper in my opinion. 👍

Combine the "better looks" with the "better performance" and the Vette becomes the hands-down winner.

I guess I should've said this previously but in the old gen GTS and RT/10 they used I guess just a regular Alpine or something radio but in a Viper with the way they sound who gives a **** about a radio, minor details and I wouldn't need one.

Well, it depends.

If I wanted a track car, with it's sole purpose being to annihilate the competition, I'd take it over the Viper. But if I wanted a Sunday cruiser, Viper all the way. And when you see a Viper and a 'Vette side-by-side at a stoplight, you're going to look at the Viper. The 'Vette looks like, well, another 'Vette. The Viper looks a lot cooler.

No the Vette has been tested to be better around a track, not much better but it is better.

However after seeing the new GTS I actually must say I like it.

A new Viper GTS, isn't the SRT-10 coupe the new GTS in all but name? If not anyone have a link with pics?

I must say the interior of the viper is nothing to write home about because lots of the instruments are on cars and trucks that you only pay 20-30K for.

But I like the styling on the exterior of the Viper more then the Z06, so.

Here guys just for reference:
