Hey there. Im getting ready for an up and coming race in a series for formula gran turismos and im having trouble with turn 7 and 8 which in lehmans terms means them two after the tight hairpins. It seems that if i go as fast as i can the tail goes wide and i fly into the inside barrier. which is bad. but if i creep round i lose time. which too is bad :ouch: . if anyone could give me some advice on how to take this pesky corner it would be well appreciated. Thank you :)

Try and do those corners one gear higher than the one you are using.

good call :) is that all i can do or will it be just down to gearing and revs? :)
is there no line better to take or anything like that? :)

Hi, you could try a number of things. It sounds like your steering is too tight:- 1. more rear downforce: 2. lower the ABS if you are using it: 3. racing soft tires: 4. more rear camber: 5. turn on the SRF. There are lots of threads for tuning the FGT. Just search under tuning.

downforce on the rear is full iv taken 5 off on the front to encourage it to stay a little bit straighter abs is on 1, racing softs of course, and il will definatly increase the rear amber thank you! :)

It's down to line and how you take the corner. The 1 gear higher theory always works in the FGT and try not to accelerate through these 2 corners. The best line is to approach the turn after the hairpin wide and cut in, running wide into the extra part of tarmac there and cut in again. Like I said, try not to accelerate in the turn though! You may also want to lower your LSD settings aswell to counter the excessive oversteer this car has.

Hey Ellis, try adjusting your toe on the rear also. Negative makes the arse end follow you round and positive makes the car steadier but less inclined to turn. Your laptimes are good so its just a case of consistency. See you sun :)

If you can take a picture of the turn, I could tell you the exact line you need to take. But it's a good idea to get lower revs. Or set the gear ratio higher so it's harder to spin.
Or just use TC on 1 (wich is forbitten!!!!)

I love them turns, I always take a late tun in for 7, its easy to go to fast though and skim the barriers, its all about practice for corners you find difficult. I spent about an hour on a track once trying to ace one corner! Eventually I got the hang of what gear, braking point, turning point and at which point I can safely get back on the power without ending up in the gravel.

One gear higher is usually the first thing I try. On that particular corner I tend not to be hard on the accelerator when crossing the paved portion of the track on the inside of the first corner as the car is off balance and potentially slightly airborne and excess throttle can spin a lot of cars around, especially the FGT.

yea ill work my microsoft paint magic and draw the perfect driving line :dopey:

I think I know the turns you mean (the two before the tunnel?). In which case you want to keep your revs constant through the turns (don't accelerate or lift off in the turn). If you can't manage that taking the turns in a higher gear should help.

Take them in the gear below the gear that gets you wide, but bounce the needle off the red line. You will lose some speed but take the corner faster.

I spend a lot of time on this track; what I like to do is enter in wide, hit the curb and then go really wide as the track widens on the mini straight bit, and keep it all in 1 fluid action.

Ellis one of two things. Your line, or your LSD. When you are shooting down the hill from turn 6 (second hairpin) try braking before you enter, stay off the throttle, and roll over the inside rumble strip. Let the car roll to the outside of the tiny straight connecting 7 & 8 and then brake and go no throttle on the rumble strip through turn 8. If you wanna take a different line then you need to change your LSD settings. To do that make your acceleration considerably lower. But that car is always going to want to spin out, so if I were you I would just use the line, rather than adjust your LSD for one corner.

Just some advice, no need to use it, its just a way to make it through the corner well.

"Turn 7 and 8" was layman's terms. The proper names are Mirabeau Bas and Portier. They come after the hairpin (singular, not plural), which is properly known as the Fairmont Hotel Hairpin. "Hairpin" and "turns 7 and 8" are layman's terms.

i find the key is to let off the throttle totally for a tick just before 7, then immediately turn in followed by as much throttle as the car can stand to loosen the rear and get it oversteering. you can add more throttle a moment later which will stabilize the rear and plant it when going straight with the wheel straight. this is basically controlled oversteer by forcing the car to oversteer, and catching the rear end at the moment the car is pointing where you want to go.

hope that makes sense.

My advice: Do not use the kerbs. They always made me lose traction. Take it a bit wider. Mirabeau Bas is easy to roll over the kerb since it seems so darn wide and unassuming. I do like the higher gearing/lower revs idea too(wish I would have thought of it when I did it).

i'm sure there's bigger disasters than me simplifying it for people. But im sure that information really pulls the ladies in :D
