I guess I need to post this as a question...

Have you ever gotten yourself to fall asleep while imagining driving through the Nordshleife?

Now, don't get me wrong. I absolutely love the Nürburgring and probably will never buy another racing game that does not include it as a track. . . everything else just pales in comparison. I tend to play GT5 most every night right before bed, so it's always fresh in my mind. A week or so ago I got the idea of imagining driving down the course and seeing what detail I could remember as a means of getting my mind off of something that was keeping me awake. It worked, and I fell soundly asleep.

I've now done this probably four times. It works like a charm.

I don't think I've even stayed awake long enough to get to the Fuchsröhre. In fact, I'm not sure I've gotten to Aremberg...

Possibly the best idea ever made, thanks, I'll try that. :D

The mere mentioning of b-spec will put me to sleep..👎

Funny. B-Spec is perfect to leave on while you're sleeping. . . endurance, especially, of course.

Oh my, I'm glad I'm not the only one who does it. Yeah I'll try to imagine driving a lap on the bumper view for some reason and I'm asleep before the end of the lap.

Trying to get there. It is such a hard track to learn, I'm getting better but clean laps are damn slow, and fast laps end in the barrier, again and again and again.

To be able to imagine the whole lap is an ambition I hope to fulfil.

No, but I've actually started to fall asleep while racing on it lol. It was a late night of racing online. I remember racing... and then waking to "you have been rejected" message on my screen back out in the open lobby.

You've probably discovered Kaz's key to success in the 24 Hour!

I do the same thing! During the day when I don't have anything to keep me busy I just imagine driving through Nordschleife. And believe me, I was able to imagine every nook and cranny! But I don't use it as a sleeper agent. On the other hand I do use it if I want to go to sleep faster.

I was once in your shoes. Continuously racing nearly without exception at Nürb online forces you to get there in a hurry. Of course, running the 4 or 24 hours of Nürburgring also helps you to learn it rather quickly.

Never tried but as mentioned, great idea:tup: I'm off to try it now.

this thread started with perfect timing! first job tomorrow, up at 6.30... really dont like early mornings, and i have trouble getting to sleep. will report back tomorrow after a day of cnc machining to tell whether it worked for me

Oh dear... I do this too, but it doesn't send me to sleep cause I crash too much.

I actually fall asleep every time I do a lap on it. I find the track tedious and way too narrow. Not a fan of the ring.

Yes, if I find myself struggling to switch my mind off at night and I am not in the mood to stick the iPod on, I imagine driving a GT40 or similar phat V8 around the 'ring, focusing on that rather than not being asleep normally does the trick and off I go.

The damn slow clean laps will help you improve faster than the fast crash laps. At least I find that I learn a lot more whilst on the gray stuff.

It's a difficult balance, but once you are reasonably comfortable(at any track), going too slow will almost always be faster than going too fast.

I can't even drive the Nur in my sleep without other drivers complaining.
/it's all in my head.

Nord Kurve - 1st corner after T13 (the old start / finish line)

Hatzenbach - long S complex

Hocheichen - chicane at end of Hatzenbach, R L

Quidderbacker Hohe - uphill straight

Flugplatz - R turning corner immediately after Quidderbacker Hohe flattens out

Schwerdenkurve - Left turning corner before Aremberg

Aremberg - U turn after 1st long section and before "fox hole"

Zzzzzzzzzz.....

^^
Pretty much my experience, exactly.

I wonder if I would fall asleep sooner or later in a slower "car"

If you describe the attributes of each corner as you "drive" it you will fall asleep slower at first. But after you a while it might help you gall asleep faster.

This is also a good way to dream about driving the 'ring which can only help your memory of the track.

After watching The Woman In Black recently I'm find it hard to sleep, I can't stop looking behind me and checking over my shoulder...

I should probably try this so I can sleep easier. :P

Thanks for the encouragement Ampaddock and Morgoth66. I re ran the Lupo race yesterday and not only stayed on, but won with ease. In fact I only put a wheel off once or twice ,without ending in the barriers. I was so encouraged I took a well tuned SLR Mclaren 19" option out in free run! :dunce:

Never mind it took me ages to win the Lupo race the first time through so I must be getting better. Just suffering from ambition>talent now. :banghead:
