In the time that I've been banned I've started work on my own computer. This is what I have so far:

Hairong H825Y (nothing too fancy)
Asus A7N8X-X Mobo (Socket A/462)
32x CD-ROM (from the old p1 133:P)
Some random 1.44mb Fdd I had kicking around
2 x 80mm Sunon case fans
ONCZ Fan Controller (http://www.overclockers.co.nz/product/casemod/controller/FC525PW-S.jpg)

But now comes the time where a cpu is needed and I need a heatsink and hsf too.

I'm leaning towards the Thermalright SLK series, preferbly a SLK-800 seeing as the 900 wont fit on my motherboard without bending a few capacitors. But the problem is that OCNZ only stocks the 900, along with most the the online stores around New Zealand.

Which means I either have to get one from overseas (the only site I know of is www.newegg.com can you guys give me some more sites? [edit]they don't ship internationally, ****[/edit]) or go for a completely different heatsink.

I've looked at the Coolermaster HHC-L61

But I'll only get that if I can't get a SLK-800.

So this is where you guys come in, are there any other heatsinks you can recommend? Keep in mind that it'll be for a Athlon XP 2500+ so it has to be a Socket A/462 heatsink and I am looking to overclock, so good cooling power is paramount as well as a pure copper base.

Thanks. :D:tup:

I strongly recommend you get Thermalright's SLK-800 or SLK-800U. The only difference between the two models is that the SLK-800U uses bolts that go through your motherboard in order to secure the heatsink better. I purchased the SLK-800(review found at this page...HardOCP's Review of SLK-800), and have had absolutely no problems with it. Just make sure you have a good fan such as Vantec's 80mm Tornado(rated at 84.1 CFM) and good thermalpaste such as Arctic Silver III.

I found Vantec's Tornado at
Outpost along with a Vantec's Nexus NXP-201 fan controller.

A fan controller is highly recommended with a fan of that size.

For the Heatsink itself, you might try,
here, but if I recall shipping was over $7.

Plycon

Thermalright has a large list of resellers at their website but I can't seem to get anything on it to load.

That's all I can think of right now. I did a lot of research before I settled on the SLK-800. It literally lowered my CPU core temperature by 20-25 degrees F combined with my Vantec Tornado. My website has pictures of both installed if you are unsure of how large they are.

I'm pretty much settled on the 800 as I know it fits my motherboard, I just need a place to find it. :grumpy:

But it sure is one big mofo

If you think the Heatsink itself is big, then take a look at my heatsink and Vantec's Tornado together here. Did I mention that the fan puts out nearly 50-70 db at 5400 RPM? That's why I got a controller. I hardly notice it anymore though.

I found the page on Thermalright's website.

Thermalright-List of Resellers

That should include international resellers also.

I use the Volcano 9 from Thermaltake, coupled with their ducting mod. Works excellent. Never seen my Athlon XP 1800+ spike above 116 degrees F, when it used to idle at 114 and peak near 130.

Hmpph, a friend of mine told me to stay away from Thermaltakes, but I quite like Extreme Volcano 12's 66 copper fins:

I so want the SLK-800, but the only place I can get it from is overseas which requires a credit card which I don't have and I doubt my mum would let me us hers, so I'm settling for something else for the moment, but I don't know which one.

Decisions, decisions.

They did tell me they was big and chunky. But he's a geek anyways so whatever...

Been reading reviews and the Volcano 12 is about 3° warmer then the SLK-800.

So tempting to go and order it now, but I must read around some more.

And once you start reading about stuff like this you never finish. Can't remember what I read, or why I decided on the TTV9, but I am extremely happy with it...

Yeah, I'll probably find another heatsink that I'll say I'm definately going to buy then I wont end up buying it.

I'm a tpyical teenager, what can you expect?

I have heard that those fin coolers would void you warranty i forget ware i saw it though.

The standard OEM heatsinks have fins, so if it voids the warranty why does it come standard?

Anyway, I'm pretty much settled on the Volcano 12, just got to wait till payday :D.

I mean the ones with out the fans.

Alrighty then.

Slight change of plan, I'm just going to get the AMD Retail pack using the stock AMD cooler for the time being. Once I get everything setup and running I'll invest in a better cooler and some overclocking...

Bah, I change my mind too often!

I went off and ordered a Thermaltake Volcano 12 and some thermal grease, hopefully it'll all arrive this Friday :D.

Nearly two weeks later I've finally got some pictures of it...

Bit of a crappy photo but there's 66 copper fins in there somewhere :D

Good god... I went to Fry's and just happen to look at the CPU coolers and found this... :scared:

I could easily see some mod moron buying it and mounting it on the outside of his case and saying "look Turbocharger"! So how would you mount this?!? It's friggin huge and I don't think it would fit in my case. :dopey:
