Well, seeing as the General Questions thread was closed, I conceded the point of making this thread. I in fact searched, but if said topic has been mentioned before, I'll gladly lock this thread. Well, here it goes.

About five minutes ago, I was stretching my legs, seeing as I haven't gotten up from bed for two hours (I use a laptop, and my bed is nice and soft.) when I noticed a little tugging sensation in my leg. That's strange I said. My logical thoughts stopped then, as it felt like someone was tearing my calf muscle out with a rusty knife. This is nothing I say. I can last a few seconds. Nothing my ass. It lasted for an entire minute. An entire minute with my foot pointing down, like a ballerina. Of death. I'm saying that my entire calf was locked up. As I speak to you, it feels like I've just run for an hour. and worst part is, this has happened to me twice in the past week. I hate it, and I'm prepared to take morphine before I stretch. This is the absolute worst pain I have ever felt in my life, and here's the question.
How do I get this pain to cease? I'd rather get stabbed by a red hot knife.

To get rid of a cramp (which I ususally get in the leg), I always stand up and try to stretch that muscle. Makes the cramp go away quickly, and the muscle only hurts for a short period of time.

For precautionary measures eat things with a lot of calcium in them, like cheese.

Stretching helps with a sleepy limb. I think massaging the muscle is a good idea, too.

I eat already massive amounts of cheese, which I assume contains all above ingredients, and I've been massaging it since then. Still hurts...

Eat bananas. Seriously. Sounds ridiculous (as well as totally random) but it helps to prevent the problem.

Then man-up.

You've done no exercise to cause it so you're just being a big sissy. True cramp only sets in after you've ran like there's a rottweiler gunning for a chunk of your arse cheeks.

I've felt that pain you're talking about. It is impossibly painful. One time I got up off the couch and started for the kitchen and then a cramp set in. I fell to the floor and shouted and hollered all sorts of expletives. Then I crawled on the floor to the kitchen and pulled myself off the ground. Cramps are bad, but as long as you get up off your ass every once and a while you don't get them as often. Try riding a bike with a cramp. That, is no fun at all.

Yep - stretch the affected muscle. If it's a calf muscle, pull the front of your foot up. With your hands if you have to.

I'd echo the comment about bananas as they contain potassium. And stretching. And finding a willing partner to give you a massage ;)

^ I like that one. Especially the last part!

But not too much. Any more than two litres per day and you risk flushing out vital salts. It is possible to overdose on water.

I had them as well in the summer. I usually get them after I've been cycling. I know what the pain is like. In my case I just wake up in the middle of the night, and slowly I feel the muscle cramping together. Before I even get the chance to stretch, the pain arrives and it's so heavy that I just want to scream it out!

Drink lots of water too.

Sounds like this man has the solution for you. Water, water, water. Also, get out of your bed! It's probably a message from your leg saying "Are you going to use me or what?!" Go out for a little run, do some streching afterwards (Hold them at least 30 seconds to be effective) and drink LOTS of water 👍 (I doubt you'll be getting even near 2 litres though... a glass every hour should do the trick, depends on the size of the glass though :p)
