Hi y'all!

just wondering if anyone here has a classic GT4 smash story to tell. I've seen a few minor ones but I almost got caught in a doosey!

3 car pile-up
One race where I started at the back of the grid the cars in 2nd and 3rd both wanted the same place on the road and basically just started ramming each other in an attempt to go single-file, then 4th place didnt have anywhere to go so he hit them and this was all at the start of the race... best pile-up i've seen in the game
I held back to watch it all unfold in front of me, it was great to watch and it took ages for them to sort themselves up. :dunce:

ive seen similar crashes with AI but none come close!:D

I let my friend play GT4 for a while once, he wasn't really a racer type person but he decided to try it out.

I forgot what race he did, but it was a pretty slow one on Twin Ring Motegi - Short.

Somehow he puts the guy in first into the grass, the AI tries to get back onto the track as soon as he could, and ends up spinning my friend out, while this happens, the 3rd and 4th place cars hit him, and they go off the track, then at top speed the 6th place car comes out of nowhere and bulldozes everyone.

All the cars end up on the grass/dirt and they look confused trying to get on the track, they keep reversing and bumping each other for a minute and finally get situated.

Pretty much the funniest thing I ever saw, seeing as I could never create an actual wreck like that.

Yeah same here. The reason the big crash happened was because my friend tried turning left at the end of the backstraight, well, there was a car there. And it was the wrong way :P It looks like you had to turn left when I raced it as well. (I don't look at the map while racing)

I enjoy crashing, especially when I'm bored or when I fail Mission 34 (which is a lot :ouch: )

Here's a pic I snapped from an F1 2-lapper on HSR (occasionally the other F1s veer wide on the second or so turn and get a good wreck). Earlier in the race I hit the wall and did a perfect 360 spin (and kept going!) and I was trying to catch up...and went kinda wide. Ops.

As a random experiment one day, I decided to pull out my Minolta and the Subaru 360. The goal was to see how far the 360 would fly if I rammed it full speed w/ the Minolta. One lap around, wham!, 700 meters :dopey: and over 100 MPH. Must've scared the poor driver out of his wits :scared:

Also fun is going backwards around the Test Course in Like the Wind. Unfortunately, other than that I haven't gotten any really awesome-sounding accidents like those you peoples have described. I do have a sudden urge to try and cause some though :)

I had one happen today. In the F1 race at Grand Valley I was passing on the outside and the AI punted me into the gravel. No big deal, but I hit something that started me spinning and it made three full 360s before it stopped. I've never seen more than two 360s before, amost like it was hung up on a high spot and was spinning like a top. Mind you I was not moving down the track, just spinning in place....

That reminds me of something i could do in gt3. On cote d' azur, get a high power car, burn up the tires so they're completely red. Then get to a somewhat flat spot and just hold down the brakes and turn hard, you'll start spinning ridiculously fast on a dime like a top or something. Dont know if that bug is in GT4 as well. That bug might have been on any track but thats where i found it, in an f1 car i think.

On Sarthe I had a very expensive wreck. The computer-driven Cizeta went off into the sand on the first low-speed chicane after the front straightaway, and on its way back onto the track it T-boned a TVR right off of the other side of the track and took a Merc SLR with them. I managed to get around it, but it was madness I tell you!

i see dudes fly off the track but ive never seen a wreck.

GT5 needs to have a one wreck and your car is done type thing. hit a wall at 100, youre done,

peole woud whinge even more than they do now (like thats posible) about not being able to play the game and it beign too hard

I was mucking around on Le Sarthe and I was in first position after the very hard right after the Mulsanne (not sure on spelling) straight, I looked behind donly to see all but one of the of the AI cars to fail to take the corner and fly staight on in to the kitty litter!

I had an "all my own work" accident on Like The Wind in my Minolta. I was trying to see if the shortest line around the track gave a faster time around the circuit - got two wheels on the grass on the inside in turn two, and speared face first into the armco at the top of the track. It all looked so violent it made me grimace. The car took off and all I could see was sky, then ground, then I had my eyes shut.

My Toyota C88 should have ended up being a Toyota 22.... But there's no damage in GT4 so I just shifted down about 4 gears and set off again, to win the race 👍

I really wish there was car damage - when I wipe myself out of the race, I'd like to therefore be unable to win the race. It's more engaging racing. But then the AI would drive me nuts by punting me into retirement every time I got near them, so I'd complain about that, and then I'd wonder why these are the only races in the world limited to 6 cars, sometimes a single lap, and with no qualifying half the time, and I'd complain about that. And to get more cars and more complicated AI it's been mentioned that other areas would suffer like the graphics or the range of cars and so on. I guess we get a driving sim or a racing sim, but can't have both, for all sorts of reason. The racing to me is not good, it's just a means to get more cars to drive. But driving all those cars is what makes the game addictive for me.

Yeah teh Minolta on stock settings round Test Track with a DS2 can cause some very amusing crashes... I must have sent that baby spinning about 6 times on that race!!

Fortunately, on the next gen of consoles, devs wont be able to use the excuse that a comprise needed to be made in terms of sacrifing damage for a realistic physics engine. That goes for AI too. I cant wait for the ps3 :)!

I agree we need damage, but you could always just quit out of the race after a race-ending crash, simulating this for yourself. That'll make you drive more cleanly in a hurry :)

You see, now that would completely ruin the game.

Ask a Forza fanboi though, and they would tell you full damage creates a state of zen in driving sims.

What absolute rubbish (well, the damage in Forza is, anyway.)

YES!
that exact same thing happened to me in an f1 on cote d'azur. i had really bad tyres and i slid out of control through a corner and after i hit the will i did lots and lots of donuts really quickly

It's harder to create accidents by yourself.

Which is why they would call them accidents :D

I was rerunning the Supercar Festival in New York with my RGT. I went with varying tuning that would allow me to meet the HP restrictions then once in, I installed a lower stage of tuning to allow for higher Aspec points and more competition. I was able to move into the lead over the ZZII at the loop before the long straight but had to zig zag block the ZZ to keep the lead at the end of teh straight. So by the end of the straight the entire AI field with the exception of the HSC were right on my heals, I made the horseshoe faster than the AI and made maybe a 1 sec lead for the straight before the right left right section. I had the brakes turned up so I could brake a little late so I'm at the end of my braking point when the Ford GT slams into me at full speed nocking me into the wall followed by AAAALLLLL three of the AI behind him. I was pinned to the wall for at least 4 seconds watching them.

Try this as an exercise: Take any fast car, F1 if you can, out to Cote d'Azur and run the race under the following conditions:
First any wall touch of any kind and you are out. (Ever see an F1 wheel after a tiny little wall touch)?
Second any contact at all with another car while passing and you're out (It is notoriously hard to pass cleanly at Monaco).

Unreasonable? That is what the GP of Monaco drivers have to do lap after lap every year. Do that for 78 laps and see if you like it. That is real racing, though. I tried it yesterday, as a matter of fact, in the middle of a boring race in the GP Championship, and couldn't make 2 laps without "destroying" my car, and probably myself if it was real life... And worse, for the game, my lap times jumped 2-3 seconds while I was being so careful. :)

I was in the civic and going a long happily overtaking and i was coming up to two cars on the middle straight turn. I pushed up the back to help me brake and to put them off course. Then looking ahead i saw the extra turn area was going to come to an end so i braked a bit and stoped accelerating. Then the two cars i hit went flying across the track at 90 degrees nearly hitting me, but i went on unscathed happily to win :dunce:

Once I was doing the Impreza championship at suzuka and me adn first were racing down tha curved straight right after the tight U-turn I set it up where I would be on his inside for the next turn and when we got there he side swiped me and crahed into the gravel while I kept going. Then as he was trying to get back on the course 3rd and 4th hit him making a road block for the orther two cars so when they came around they T-boned all the the others who were trying to get on the track. After it was all said and dun everyone but me had wrcked it was the biggest wreck I've ever seen on any GT game.

Not the biggest wreck I've seen, but the only one I bothered saving a replay of. My friend (really, it wasn't me!) was trying the Skyline slipstream mission, and got bumped passing the pack in the first corner. He spun down onto the flat near the inside wall, then caught traction and shot uphill across the track in front of the other R34s. In this pic, his car is bouncing & spinning after being smoked by the white car...

I had a great one the other week. Was doing "Like The Wind" with the F1 car. Great fun. Anyway, I spun down to the bottom, came up the top, flew about 20 feet in the air etc... I took LOADS of screenshots, since the crash was so insane I didn't think anyone would believe it.

If anyone wants to see them, I can post some screenies later. (They're on my other computer.)

I had that bug in Seattle in GT3 with the Ford GT40. I don't think it matters about the tires or track.
