I've just had a major lockup creating a room - it just hung on connecting to server.
I tried everthing to get it to quit - remove disc, ethernet cable out etc etc but couldn't get anywhere.
Every now and then it flashed up saving data in the lower righthand corner.
I waited a good 15 mins for it to sort itself out but eventually I had to switch off at the rear (fan was monstering too but it's not a heat issue)

When resarting I got the report error message which I maybe foolishly ignored and loaded GT5 only to be confronted witht the EULA agreement.

Uhoh.

I quit game and went to the game save data which is showing as corrupt
Loaded GT5 again and sure enough I'm back to LVL 1 with no cars and just 20.000 credits.
My tracks I created are still there, as are the photos I took and the messages I set up for the Lounge etc have stayed but everything else has gone.

Worst bit is it seems you cant backup the game data either, copying not allowed.

I also tried the salvage files in the GT5 utilities but that didn't work.

Luckily I was only LVL 15 with 750k, 29 cars, all Licences done and LVL 8 B-spec Bob :banghead:

keep a USB disk in the playstation and backup your game data to it (just the save game info) you can always copy it back should this occur again later.

I hope you tried holding down the power button.

Ugh, next time try turning it off from the xmb or the power off button before resorting to cutting the power with the switch on the back of the ps3, this is entirely your own fault op.

It's hung for me a few times now and I've always switched it off by holding down the power button until it beeps. Hasn't caused a corrupt save yet. Would be gutted if it did. Would be great if we could say a copy to USB.

Turing off at the back is never a good idea. I turned off the PS3 at the back once after playing NFS Shift. When I went back my Veyron was at the start menu but it said new career and I had to start again.

Read the 1st post, I tried everything it was locked solid no other option. Holding power button didnt work and no way to access xmb because pressing PS made the light flash once on the DS3 but nothing on screen. I had to use the rocker switch on the back
How is that my entirely fault?

Unfortunately this is the truth here.

Its your fault.

Now my friend did lose one of his cars gifting it to me.

Also if you gotta go by the back switch, you better make sure that orange HD indicator light is NOT on. Or it will corrupt the data.

But this isnt new. Ps1 did this. Cant lose power while accessing data.

Nightmare... cant even imagine it happening with me. I should put my hands in the game just in december...so i hope they fix all these issues until then.

This needs a fix! Removing the copy protection of the save file is the best solution. Resident Evil 5 and Motorstorm Pacific Rift both came with copy protection, fans cried and both had the cp was removed with a patch update.

Holding the PS button does work, Ive had hangups in a few games where the PS3 becomes unresponsive to all commands from the pad but if you hold the power button you get a beep, then a pause (sometimes a very long one, minutes even) before a triple beep and it resets
