So, when I got into my grandpa's MB C230, I noticed the strongest crayon smell in the interior. What gives? Is it just the interior materials or could it be something in the AC or what?

Smells like as if you stored a bunch of crayons in a plastic bucket and sealed it for a long time. Then, open the bucket and stick your nose in the crayons. It's pretty terrible.

Also, any ideas on how to get rid of it?

I love that smell, I don't see why you want to get rid of it.

But I suppose hanging a dangly tree freshener from the rear-view mirror wouldn't hurt, although the price of the Obstructed View ticket will.

I've noticed that before too, but I'm not sure what causes it. I know I've only experienced it in cars with leather interiors, so that's probably part of it. Beyond that I'm just as clueless as you, like MistaX though, I enjoy the smell.

I can't believe you guys like that smell. I practically have asphyxia and a killer migraine from having to go to Miami and back in that thing.

It's not new car smell or leather smell either. It's crustyass crayon tub smell.

Ft. Lauderdale to Miami? At least its a short drive...

I'm not sure why it would happen, my only guess is that something was spilled, and consequently makes it smell.

Crayon smell is either the wax or the dye they use to color the wax (in crayons), so it could be a dye they use or there's a common compound in the car somewhere. Get alcantara.

Ever smelled grandpa? Maybe the old man is melting in the sun.

Maybe one of his little nephews shoved in some crayons through the air vent. :odd:

I don't realy enjoy this smell. I love the smell of a new car. But studies have shown that you could get intoxicated. :ouch:

Ive also noticed this smell in older Mercedes. Its the smell of the leather (or pleather).

I would suggest opening the windows or using some sort of leather wipe

my old 92 buick regal smelt strong like crayons, it didnt have a leather interior though. But i didnt mind it, if a car is gonna smell like something crayons isnt the worst it could be.

I smell crayons in my car, but it is actually the car's A/C: the air can get stale in the vent, and the first circulations of air are brutal.

However, for long drives, I'd have to agree with all others here.
