I hope this hasn't been posted before, I searched for it and couldn't find it so here it is:

This has got to be the coolest offroad vehicle I have ever seen. Not only does it had a nice lift, full exterior roll cage and some other cool ofrroad stuff, it is a Dodge Ram with 6 wheels!!

Ugly and pointless. THIS is the best offroad vehicle ever...

Followed by the H1 Humvee.

The T-Rex was a concept back in 1997. The model shown, is actually one of the concept vehicles modified. I believe the owner spent well over 35 thousand for the shell, just to have it.

Original Concept:

Oh, and H1 Humvee's suck on a lot of off-roading trails. Their main premise is to go fast over less than ideal situations, and that's it. They don't reach far beyond a small sand dune, small water crossings, or slightly muddy terrain. They absolutely cannot do rock crawling, heavy mud travel, or larger sand dunes. They're simply ill-equipped for it.

To replace your ill-advised Humvee, I have something of use:
Avalanche Engineering's Sniper (multiple award winner for pre-built off-road buggy design):

LoL your kidding right? Monster truck are just show vehicles, they can't do **** offroad, heck they don't even have locking difs.

Also agreeing with toyomatt, H1s do indeed suck at offloading, a well equipped jeep can destroy an H1 offroad as this video shows http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2316222768844124610&q=jeep+hummer

However I still think the best off roading vehicle is a Uni-Mog.

Actually the owner was planning to buy a T-Rex but after the program was scraped, he bought a regular 3/4 ton Dodge Ram and modified it into a Rex.

Correct. I remember reading a little bit about this one in a 4x4 magazine.

Ya it would have been such a cool vehicle if it would have been put into production. Just like always, the coolest cars remain concepts...

Sorry but the fact that the Humvee can drive ¾ UNDER WATER and the Dodge cannot even hope to, automatically makes the H1 better offroad. Period. I bet the H1 would give that 6x6 a run for its money offroad. Don't take your hatred of Hummers go so far as to dismiss the capability of the H1.

And I put up Gravedigger as a joke people, lighten up.

It may have more power but Gravedigger could out accelerate it very easily. I believe the top speed of even the biggest dump truck is around 45~50mph.

See, you're missing the point.

It can run over ANYTHING. It doesn't NEED a trail, it MAKES a trail.

It doesn't NEED to crawl, it CRUSHES.

Then why do mines have large, smooth gravel roads to drive them on? If it's such a great off-roader, why go to the trouble of grading a path?

:P

Have you seen how much it costs to maintain one of those?

We can't go ruining bits on it all the time.

That, and they're too heavy to go up most of those inclines. I should know. they build Komatsu trucks in Peoria.

oh, and they're RWD.

The thing can run over a Mountain. The drive wheels make no difference as it can drive across the Pacific like it's a puddle.

I should know. I've done it.

LUDICROUS CLAIM!

Especially since that sort of activity would short out the drive motors.

yep, most of 'em are diesel-electric. Just like locomotives.

You're comparing an H1 to a T-Rex. Neither vehicle is fantastic off-road. Have you actually driven an H1 at all? Have you driven one off-road? They're garbage. My buddies lifted Cherokee, which cost just over $500, outlasted the H1. Talk about your HUGE piles of wasted material. The H1 is pure crap off-road, no if's/and's/but's about it.

Umm no

Take a closer look at the pics of the 6x6 Ram. It has a snorkel that goes to the top of the roof. That means (if the owner has sealed everything properly) it could drive up to the roof underwater. An H1 has the air intake on the top of the hood meaning that it can't go through as much water.

H1s are horrible at rock crawling, just because they use them in the military doesn't mean they are unstoppable 4x4 beasts. They are good at transporting heaving loads for long distances while encountering moderate offroad terrain. The T-rex would do waaay better in a true rock crawling/offroad environment

I have actually driven an H1 and offroad at that. Albeit "muddin" doesn't really count now does it? My basic point is that the H1 is better offroad that you guys give it credit for.

Ok then, I take back the underwater comment since they both do it. And rock crawling is boring. My idea of offroading I guess is a bit different than yours.

Agree to disagree.

I know exactly what the H1 can and cannot do, since a friend of mine has an ex-military issue H1. He picked it up at a local military auction for $12k, and it was in fair shape. He pulled the seats in favor for something a little more comfortable, and did a complete overhaul on the entire drivetrain. He likes it, but was very disappointed with it's performance. He hardly uses it now, since he picked up a mid-'70's Landcruiser that completely out performs the H1.

The H1 wasn't known for being fast, too heavy and the diesel they choose for it I don't like. But it wouldn't be that hard to swap out an LS2 or some Chevy small block and get it at least mildly quick. I think the civilian obsession with it was the fact that it was rather exclusive and different. The H2 just killed off any hope of exclusivity (or respect in my opinion) for the H1. And thus I think AM General and GM shot themselves in the foot with the H2 and caused that negativity to spread over to the H1. I honestly think that. But whatever. Again, agree to disagree.

Well, if you're going to have an LS2 (or other Chevy small block), you might as well get a lightweight chassis. For instance, a 1500 shortcab/shortbed. That way you could actually push the weight, versus sinking with it in the H1.
