Creating a new thread...

Creating a new thread seems to be difficult for me. I wonder if other members have the same problem creating a new thread? I wanted to start a new thread about Nostradamus( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nostradamus). I had to ponder (don't know if this is good English...) were I had to create this thread. I thought about "The Rumble Strip", started with this thread in "Opinions & Current Events", changed my mind, erased everything and had an idea to explain everything in this thread. So, here it is!
I'm a libra, maybe that's my problem, if you believe in horoscopes. Sometimes I can't seem to make a decision.

I read some off his verses and am amazed how "right" he was. The last couple off months almost the entire world seems to suffer from floods, earthquakes, volcanos erupting etc... If he was "right", Europe will suffer from world war III. The only place which is safe to live is Spain. This war should end in 2012 and northern part of Europe will be distroyed. An atomic bomb will be dropped in the Middle East (it doesn't say were exactly) making it uninhabitable for many years. It's scary if you think about it. Watching the news made me think about this.


When I create a new thread, I always think it's going to be "the best thread ever", :sly: I hope I'm not the only one.

"off" and "of" is still a mystery for me!

I still have to find a good ending for this thread, which is difficult.

Maybe this is it!
 
I'm not sure that many of these prophecies can actually be attributed to Nostradamus - at the very most, you could say that he may have made some prophecies which resonate with modern day prophecies, but I'm pretty sure that if you look at the actual things Nostradamus wrote, it's pretty light on the specifics...

That's the best thing about being in the prophecy business... any old prophecy has an indefinite shelf-life, so long as you don't specify precisely when something is going to happen. That way, if something eventually does happen, then, hey presto, you were right all along! In cases where people do mention specific dates, they are almost always either completely wrong, or are non-specific in a different way. There is, of course, always the case of the 'self-fulfilling prophecy' as well...

In the case of the 'prophecies' you mention here, they're not too convincing to me... Natural disasters happen all the time - they always have and they always will, so prophecizing them is a rather pointless exercise. If there is indeed a World War III, of course Europe will suffer from it, otherwise it wouldn't be a World War! Prophecizing exactly when WW3 begins and ends would indeed be impressive, but only if the prophecy was made back in the 16th Century, and the specific details were mentioned. It's a darn-sight less impressive to 'predict' World War 3 when you already know that there has been two World Wars already... It's my guess that most current 'prophecies' of WW3 are far more recent than anything that Nostradamus ever specifically mentioned. If he did, I'd like to see the evidence.

If a panel of experts could sit down and 'interpret' Nostradamus to tell us the exact (to within say one month) start and end of World War 6, and it was their only allowed prophecy, AND it turned out to be correct, then I'd be impressed... but the problem is, that's generally not how prophecies work. People have predicted Armageddon a zillion times over the centuries, and so far, they have all been completely wrong. Now that we are furnished with the knowledge that nuclear weapons exist, however, any predictions of nuclear holocaust are probably more realistic - but again, it doesn't take a genius (or a prophet) to realise that nuclear holocaust is a very real possibility in our lifetimes.

It’s just people grasping for straws. As is astrology, frankly.
 
I have trouble creating a thread, because of my history, there is a great chance of me getting flamed for making a thread, and it's usually off-topic. :indiff:
