Hello GTPlanet! I start off my build thread with a story about my first wheel.
My story about this wheel is entertaining. Wait, no it's not! Here' I'll spare the details and go with the basics.

It was a Madcatz MC2 PS2 wheel. It had no Force Feedback and broke within the first week. It sucked.

Fast forward many years, and we get to the present day. I had just received my Fanatec 911 GT3 RS V2 CSE Wheel. Took about 20 minutes to set up, and were ready to rock! Well sort of. See, I've been using a Gamepad for at least seven years, maybe more. With someone who's only used a game pad for a year or two, they'll get used to it in about an hour or two. For me, it'll take some very long time. I can now keep a car steady, but recovering from a drift or spin, forget it! Here's a little discription of what it feels like getting used to a wheel after so many years of gaming with a pad.

You know that period of time after having the flu really bad? Where you know what to do, but you have to get used to it because you haven't done it in a while? Well, that's how I feel.

So far, a have a pretty good setup. Nothing perfect, but it will do. The problem I have is that the table I use is completely un-sturdy. In fact, on Friday I managed to take the wheel off the table and have it fall flat on my toes, thankfully my foot covered the Clubsports. Here's a pic of my setup as I have it now, it doesn't wobble as much on the carpet, which is a very good thing.

Well, I figured to get the most fun with my wheel, I'd need a cockpit. Then I came across this thread. Hehe, I bet you know what I'm thinking! Thanks DR for the guide!

Me and my dad figured we could model the cockpit after my dad's BMW 330I. The proportions are about exact to my size and height, so it would work perfectly. Are friend also mentioned that he needed seats from his son's E30 325I to be gone, so why don't we go down and pick them up?

A trip to Carrolton and we come home with two seats and two headrests. Did I mention there fully adjustable?

Not in the 100% best condition, but who cares! As long as they're fully adjustable, they're comfortable, and they're seats, there's no problem!

So right now we are in the design phase of building the cockpit. It will be made out of PVC Piping, Wood, and Aluminum. Plus it will have inverted Clubsport Pedals, and maybe a buttkicker. I'm also thinking about a Surround Sound System.

If you have a recomendation on what buttkicker and Surround Sound System I should use, post it up! I'm also open to suggestions on pretty much everything!

Having gone through my rig... don't use wood. Its heavy, not that strong, and expensive. The only thing it is good for is drilling holes into. PVC, plastic sheets, and plumbers glue is the way to go. You can use metal for looks but I discovered that without proper tools it is more trouble than it is worth. Save the money from that and get a sparco recaro seat off of ebay/craigslist. If you want looks I would youtube how to paint fake carbon fiber on surfaces. Its a really cool process and turns out really well.

The only thing I am using wood for is a wheel and pedal base, right now wood is really expensive out at HomeDepot. I will try that Carbon Fiber painting thing, it does look rather cool.

Whooa, how much does wood for you guys? Don't get the ones that are already pre cut for your own good, but rather get a really long one and have them cut it for you. A 2x4 in 20 feet in height lumber I got is 6 dollars from home depot. Thick boards though are expensive so I tend to get a huge one and also get them to cut it.

Well, It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The original design didn't go as planned actually. So instead, we built the Cockpit out of things we had around the garage. This includes a Keyboard tray with sliders, and some oddly shaped table legs. I'm actually surprised at how sturdy the thing is. I'll be going back to HomeDepot next week for some Carriage Bolts to mount the shifter. What size should I get? (Fanatec Shifter) After that it will be audio and tactile equipment. Plus a video! :dopey: Anyway here are some pictures. Took a while to mount the pedals.

Sorry for the bad quality. All I have is a camera phone at the moment. I need to find the charger for my parents camera, then I'll get nice photos, I think. :scared:

Not sure on length if carriage bolts. I brought my shifter and mount in with me. I also used threaded inserts in the mount so i didnt have nuts hanging all over the place. You will have to put a slot in the head of the carriage bolt so you can tighten them with a flathead screwdriver.

I also opened up my shifter and moved the ps/2 cable port so it goes out the back of the unit instead if from the bottom.
this requires cutting a little material out if the inside of the shifter and obviously drilling a new hole. But was very easy. Sorry, i do not have pics from inside the shifter. While you are inside the shifter you may want to do the silent shifter mod. Google is your friend here ;)
Edit; i just googled it and your fanatec mod thread came up :) sooo never mind.

You will most likely need a longer ps2 cable for the shifter. It took me forever to find one locally. If you have trouble pm me a d we can work something out. I suggest trying small computer shops as best buy and the likes will pretty much laugh at you if you ask for one.

I think i paid like 5$ for a 6ft cable.

what i meant by slotting the carriage bolts, pay no atention to the red button.
