First, I know the wheel has been out since late last year, but how are the current models holding up for people? I know it's dumb ask in the time frame allotted (2-4mnths), but if there is an early indication of failures might as well be aware of them now.

Second, as I watched the video of the CSW Thomas mentioned a new belt system, but does this apply to the CSR elite also? I read a thread by crispy, but (he/she) assumed that they may be the same. Is it safe to assume this and that they are the same mechanically with only electrical/feature differences? I don't mind the absence of features as I'll play mostly on ps3 and soon to be xbox after wheel purchase, but if the CSW offers some solid mechanical upgrades scratch that plan.

Third, did fanatec leave some solid maintenance rules/guides in the manual? If so, I'll just refer to those if I purchase. If not, or even if they do, anyone have any unwritten things that help prolong the life of the wheel itself?

Thanks to anyone who can answer my questions.
Also, to mods sorry if this has been asked/answered.

I've owned a CSR E since January and it's been rock solid.......no performance issues at all.

CSW and CSR E are identical in terms of the base from a mechanical standpoint. The difference is the PCB and the steering wheel with quick release.

There's no maintenance required on the Elite. The only possible future items could be belt replacement and frankly the only way I see that is if one breaks. It uses serpentine belts just like a car does and those things lost for 100,000 Kim's without breaking a sweat.

I do believe Thomas stated that there will be some internal differences in the CSW. He also said that he is making some mid production changes to the final product, hence its 'slight' delay.

The only difference between the wheels outside of compatibility (CSW does not work on 360) and the quick release system on the CSW is what has been speculated about the effects (thanks LostRacer) on FFB the GT and F1 rims will have.

I did receive my CSR-E before christmas last year. So I think I am having one of the first generation. I do have absolutely no problems with the wheel itself (after the pedal shifter on XBOX was fixed by an firmware update).

But I do have some issues with the manual shifter, which sometimes looses the calibrations and can't be re-calibrated probably.

The wheel itself is a mayor upgrade to the G27 that I used before.

My CSR Elite is one of the first (judging by the serial number) and i do have some issue's with it. Do'nt be alarmed about it though, because if you have a problem, fanatec customer service will help you out.

I know for a fact (had some inside information) that the upcoming batch CRS Elites, which is scheduled for delivery in march, has production improvements.

Mechanically the CSW has the same base as the CSR Elite, so small improvements made to the CSR Elite in the base will also be in the CSW.

The only difference with the CSW and the CSR Elite will be :
-electronics
-quick release
-wheel rims

and ofcourse xbox 360 compatibility

I pre-ordered my CSR Elite the first day it was on the Fanatec webshop. I received it back in December. It has worked flawlessly ever since with about 15-20 hours of use per week. It does have a little bit of fore and aft play in the main steering shaft, but it doesn't bother me while racing.

I don't really like the cheap plastic rim, but that will be replaced as soon as Thomas releases better replacement rims.

I would highly recommend the wheel to anyone who is serious about simracing, especially if you have an xbox.

I have had my CSR-E since release back in december, running on firmware 721. I had mine before christmas, and I have had no issues, zero shaft play, no chipping of rubber from the wheel, no burning smells, flawless. I play both GT5 and Forza 4, 8-9 hrs a week on average, sometimes more depending on my girls work scedual and my friends abuse it, hours at a time. I guess im the minority, but i wouldnt trade mine for the world. I also sold my g27 to a buddy and i ruined his experiance with the logitec after he used my csr-e.

I HIGHLY recomend this wheel

I received my CSR-E before Christmas. I have had zero problems with it and it is a big improvement over the G27 I was using previously and the G27 is a very nice wheel.

I use it almost everyday and did the 24hr Nurburgring race with it. It has had lots of work.

The quality impression of the rim is not what one would expect in a very high end wheel but I like the rim very much for functionality. It feels great in the hands and the buttons are well positioned for use. The paddles are top grade.

Thanks everyone for the reply. Will order as soon as possible.... Maybe I should order some pedals now while i wait for production on csre

Yes i am so excited to get a proper wheel mounted on this beast, i'm hungering for any kind of hint as to when it might be released. i wish thomas could even tell us which quarter he's planning on releasing the new rims! thomas i can't stand it! I cant stand how ALMOST perfect this wheel is knowing it WILL be perfect eventually!
