After the long July wait, my friend received his CSR-E wheel and CSR-E pedals. He quickly mounted them up to his Wheel Stand Pro and off he went.

And I mean he literally went off track! The wheel had such a "heavy" feel that he had trouble controlling the car!

I went over and we got the wheel to behave within reason. The settings we ended up with were (FW 722, I believe):

GT5:
FFB 1
Active Steering ON

CSR-E:
Sen Off
FF 60
Sho default
dri 3
ABS default
LIn 0
dEA 0
SPr -3
DPr -3

You can see we made a lot of effort to reduce the weight! with spring and damper at -3 and drift at 3 (5 made the feel of the wheel "mushy"). The overall feel is still very heavy, but there is a bigger problem...

After driving for a little and letting my friend get more familiar with his wheel, I went home to my G27 and instantly found more "feel" from the car and tires. He came over and found the same commenting also that he could easily recover from tail slides on the G27. Whereas he felt that once the back stepped out on the CSR-E that he was a passenger until the crash ended.

Please do not take this as a trashing of the CSR-E! It is a very nice product with an impressive feature list. We just want to get the most out of this thing. So I'd be happy to hear any suggestions about settings and firmware to help the GT5 experience (only playing GT5 with it), or anything we overlooked.

Cheers

P.S. the pedals are really good! We are only looking for wheel settings :)

Hmmmm, you have set FFB very low. I have no idea about strength of the CSR-E, but with the T500 (which is really strong) I had FFB set to 5. You also cut FFB on the wheel to 60, while the T500 does not have this option.

But the most important reason why you feel more "connected" with the G27 is because it is gear driven.

When I changed from the Logitech DFP (gear driven) to the Fanatec GT3 (belt driven) everything changed a lot. The GT3 was better in almost every aspect. But there was one single point, where the DFP felt better. And that was exactly what you described! The "feel" from the gear driven Logitech wheel was just more intense in some way. Especially during rally sessions in GT5 (on mud) it was very noticeable.

So I think that is what you experience right now.

I am using a G27 for GT5 right now (it replaced my faulty GT3) and now I have this old "feeling" back, which is the one great point about gear driven wheels.

GT 5
Simulation
Power assist Off
FF 5

CSR-E
Sen Off
FF 100
Sho 100
Dri Off
Abs 75
Lin 0
Dea 0
Spr 0
Dpr 0
ACL on --I also drive FM4

The generally accepted approach is to have the wheel FF at 100 and then adjust to taste in the game. I also think you should try with drift "off" and try Lin, Dea, Spr and Dpr at zero to start.

I moved from the GT27 and the CSR-E has a more precise and responsive feel. It can be very strong if you run the FF up.
