Hi, a newb here.

I just picked up my CSR Elite and clubsport pedals about a week ago. And I've been splitting my play time between GT5 and Forza 4.

I do, however, notice a pretty big difference on how my wheel reacts between both games. When playing GT5, my wheel vibrates when I accelerate on the pedal giving the feel of the engine revving. Though when playing Forza, I don't get the same feeling. My wheel still get force feedback on everything else, just not on engine revs.

The wheel settings are the same for both games. I play pretty much at default settings with FFB set at 50%. My ABS is set to off, so that should not be the problem.

I'm pretty sure I have the latest firmware since it is part of the March shipments from Fanatec. Though if anyone can point me in the right direction on a how-to update guide/video that would be appreciated. Looked at the fanatec website and installed the drivers, but still pretty confused about the whole process.

Its only forza that uses Fanatecs vibration motors so I don't no what your feeling on GT5 but I would reccomend turning FFB up to 80 on forza. I think GT5 is heavier but forza has more feel

That's weird. Right now, I would say GT5 is making full use of the vibrations, but Forza isn't. The wheel under Forza isn't as dynamic as GT.

I also tested by putting the FFB at 100, but there is no difference.

I have a GT2 so that could be the difference, what degrees of rotation do you use

I set my degrees of rotation to off, so I am playing on game defaults. I think the default for Forza is 270. GT5 is 900.

wow ok well you should set the degrees of rotation to 900 for forza and set it to 720 when your using a race car that should improve things a lot :)

I'll try that.

But the issue I'm having has to do with the pedals. I did a bit more reading and from what I understand, the gas pedal should vibrate when ABS is set to off. This function is not game specific so it should work with Forza as well.

I think I'm going to have to do a firmware update and see if that changes anything. But I'm having a hell of a time trying to figure out how to do this. So far, I installed the driver on my pc. From here I have no idea what to do.

Can anyone provide me with instructions on how to do this. I hear any screw up during an update can destroy my wheel and void my warranty.

You should check the firmware revision on your Elite wheel first before attempting to run the firmware update. Since you just received your unit it should be at revision 722 and the only revision available for download is 721B.

Power on the wheel, but do not put it in PC/PS3 or Xbox mode. Press and hold the A & B buttons, then press the two lower unlabeled Red buttons near the center of the wheel. This will quickly show your Firmware revision and it will also toggle the Fan setting from Always On to Auto (temp) or vice versa. If you want to change the fan setting back, just repeat the button sequence.

If you find your wheel is somehow at firmware revision 707, then you will certainly want to head over to Thomas's blog (911wheel.de) and pick up the 721B firmware. The Windows software used to install the firmware is much, much improved over previous versions for Fanatec products. Of course if you were at revision 707 you would probably have some other problems with the wheel that you haven't described in this thread.

I think the "shaking" of the wheel you are experiencing in GT5 comes from a missing death zone and has nothing to do with a "motor vibration" at all. Please try a very fast car - like a formular one car or the X2010 or 2011 in GT5. Then you will realize that you cannot even hold the wheel in your hands when you drive full speed. It shakes very much - especially if you lower the wheel rotation to 450 or below. As I read someplace that shaking comes from simulation a Logitech-wheel as GT5 has no real Fanatec wheel drivers installed (which is a bad joke in my opinion).

But what I did realize driving the CRS Elite in GT5 and Forza4 is the difference in force feedback information in the wheel. When your tires start to loose grip in Forza 4 you can actually feel it in the wheel (and hear it too :-)). In GT5 nothing like that comes through. And I tried a lot of different settings in GT5 get them to work better. By the way: You need to lower the force feedback in GT5 with the CSR-E to below 50% to get a decent force feedback information in the first place.

About the gas pedal vibration: I dont think that there is any kind of vibration associated to the use of ABS in the pedal! There is no motor there! I do read that you can get vibration in the brake pedal in the Fantaec Clubsport - but they are not compatible with XBOX. What you can get is a vibration in the wheel when braking with ABS - but you have o accivate that in the wheel settings.

I'll try that.

But the issue I'm having has to do with the pedals. I did a bit more reading and from what I understand, the gas pedal should vibrate when ABS is set to off. This function is not game specific so it should work with Forza as well.

The gas pedal does not vibrate. The steering wheel has small vibration motors
built into the wheel that vibrate.

To simulate engine vibes you must turn ABS setting to OFF and Sho to whatever strength you want. Try all the way up (100) as these vibrations are quite suttle.

You can test if these small vibration motors are working by plugging the wheel into the PC and using the Fanatec Properties Page. Click on the box labeled vibration test and wheel rim should vibrate.

Forza 4 uses an in game system to regulate the vibration motors in the rim of the Fanatec wheels. It only vibrates at red line, speed bumps etc. GT5 however does not implicate this feature so it defaults to the Fanatec setting of vibrating in reaction to the gas pedal. I truly wish that Forza improves the vibrations to include the engine rumble, I would love to feel the cam bump of a 427 big block :D
