Leftlanenews.comAuto parts supplier Cummins today announced it has reached agreement with a major U.S. automaker to produce and market a light-duty diesel passenger vehicle engine. For competitive reasons, Cummins can't disclose which of the Big Three automakers it will build the engine for. The first vehicles with this engine are expected to be ready for market by the end of the decade. The engines will be used in vehicles under 8,500 pounds. In late June, Automotive News reported Ford was considering building a diesel Expedition. (Thanks to Mike for the tip!)
GM allready has Diesel models in the pipeline, due in the US by the end of the decade. A DCX version seems unlikely, given that BluTec is now the answer from Mercedes-Benz. So Ford is the only logical choise, and given they own part of Cummins (or, that is what I have been told), it makes even more sense.
