I brought this up briefly in one of the "PD are you listening?" threads but it seemed to get overlooked....Maybe its a crap idea but for what its worth:
Dodgems still seems to be the order of the day for alot of folk who get frustrated not being able to pass you... Ram! and we're off into the sand again. They take the penalty at full speed so it makes no difference and they're long gone by the time you crawl out of the gravel... marvelous, they got away with it again.
Well how about if there was a cumulative penalty system for such behaviour? 5 ramming penalties and you get banned for a week, 10 and banned for 2 weeks etc... It may discourage this tactic somewhat. At the very least, the culprits won't be around for long.
Its not harsh and they don't have every right to compete in these events if they are not willing to enter into the true spirit of competition. All they do is ruin the fun and the challenge in that tediously smug anonymity and immunity that the internet allows. I caught my 17 year old son flying round ramming people a couple of weeks back... "Its fun," he said. He is now banned from online gaming full stop until he grows up a bit and learns some respect.
I think PD should apply this thinking to everyone lest the rammers be the death of multiplayer GT, as they have been with other online racers.
Along with that, it is an unfortunate fact that accidental side-swiping mid corner results in one of the combatants taking a penalty... clearly not-fair and seems to defeat the racing spirit. Don't push too hard or you'll be punished! Hmmph! Has anyone seem Jason Plato and Matt Neal race each other in the Touring Car Championship?
