I was playing basketball yesterday, then my friend passed me the ball and hit me right in the eye. Anyway, anyone know how long blackeye usually lasts and whats the fastest way of getting it cured? First day i had it i put ice on it, second i left it alone. Now today, should i still put ice on it? there seems to be a black mark coming right on the bottom of my eye.. You think ice will still save me?

I've had a few black eyes. Most mine last 5 days. Just put up with it and tell your mate to go along with the story,'I was in this fight with a 6ft 18 stone guy and I pummeled his ass, and this is all he gave me'

Cool it down
Ice packs or cold compresses during the first twenty-four hours, particularly when used promptly after being injured, could help minimize bleeding and swelling. Raw steaks that have traditionally been put on black eyes were done so because the meat is cold, not because it has any special healing properties. Ice wrapped in a washcloth or a baggie of frozen veggies are more suitable steak substitutes.

Avoid a swelled head
Keep your head elevated (sleep with a few extra pillows, for example) to help limit swelling and pooling. Over-the-counter pain relievers, such as acetaminophen, can also help relieve inflammation, plus minimize discomfort. Avoid aspirin since it decreases the blood's ability to clot.

Apply moist heat
On the second day following the injury, applying warm washcloths or compresses can help increase circulation to the injured tissue. This aids in the re-absorption of any leftover blood that has collected at the injury site, promoting healing.

Nope, I've managed to spend life without a black eye. Numerous other bruises and scars to make up for it.

Last time I had a black eye was from skating, that was a nasty stack. Just do what Der Alta said and it should go away pretty quick. If you're worried about looks borrow some make-up from your sister/friend/mum whatever.

I've given a guy a nose bleed playing basket ball. It isn't that hard to give a guy a black eye with a basket ball is it?

You said what I was going to say. But, I didn't need to look it up on the web. I'm "experienced" with bruises.
