This past weekend, I came down with a miserable head cold.

My nose is running like a leaky faucet, and My head feels like it's carrying extra weight.

I tried out my usual cure, and that helped. However after rolling out of bed this morning and making the trek to work, saw the cold reaffirm itself as the headache holding most of the property rights to my brain.

My usual cure is to take a Hearty chicken noodle soup, add about 5 cloves of fresh garlic, a can of chicken meat, a few bullion cubes (Chicken) and warm up on the stove. really clears things out.

The other cure I have is to get Stumbling drunk, down a few aspirin, and pass out for 12 hours. Unfortunately, I have to work on Mondays, so that route was out.

Are there any other suggestions out there that people have tried?

Sleep and lots of it
Maybe an effervescent vitamin C thingy that you drop in some water and it turns into orange drink.
Thats about it oh and lots of cups of tea :p

Hot tea with a shot of Gran Marnier in it. Soothes the throat, clears the sinuses, and takes the edge off the headache.

All at the same time.

Wow! not really surprised by the alcohol remedies!

Back in the day, my cure for any cold was a bottle of Jack Daniels and some Grand Marnier (the nectar of the Gods neon_duke;) ) Now, since I don't drink anymore, I choose NyQuil, although it does have a hefty alcohol content to it (I think it's 25 proof!!!) it tends to do wonders for me.

My cure for a cold is taking a really long and really HOT shower.
After an hour everything is cleared and gone for the day.
But some alcohol does miracles too:D

Sickness is for the mentally weak.

Sorry, I had to input my opinion. Up until I was about 22, I would go into work or school absolutely sick as a dog and pretend I wasn't sick. I think I stopped because a co-worked slapped me because I got her sick. Heh.

Anyway, Der Alta, if I were you, I'd just skip work and watch TV all day - I do that a lot even when I'm not sick.

I always just down insane amounts of water and hope I piss it all out of my system.

still nursing the remainders of the cold. Sat down with a little bit of Seagrams mixed into some ginger ale. Tried to sleep it off/sweat it out but the wife had other ideas after crawling into bed. She then decided to open the windows, as she was too warm. So I woke up freezing int he middle of the night.

She did suggest that I take a sick day. But I figure that's for when I simply can't make it to work.

Nyquil works well, but it gives me horrible dry mouth and I'm a little nauseous (sp?) the next day...

My mom also makes lemon or ginger tea, which is a nice natural remedy for "clearing out".

While sick, I'll often have "rice-and-mu-yung" for breakfast or lunch... it's basically white rice in hot water (rice soup, if you will), with mu yung (shredded, dried pork)... great tasting, and easy on the body while still providing a lot of calories and carbs to get through the day. ;)

Hope you get well soon!

NyQuil is the worst-tasting thing on the planet. If they can make water flavored, why can't there be a medicine for colds in something other than cherry or menthol?

Have some hot sauce. It'll clear up your nose. If you have it enough, maybe your nose'll dry up. Either that, or you'll have a sore nose, and you won't notice the cold because your nose'll be sore...

I use two things. Firstly, we have a product called Lemsip. Now the MaxStrength version of this actually works. It's a lemony-type thing, contains paracetomol. Add a spoonful of honey for taste and energy.

The "hot sauce" thing that rjensen11 suggests isn't too wide of the mark either. I tend to make the hottest chilli or curry that I could possibly stand (and for me, that's really quite hot!!), and literally sweat it out. One of the lesser known side effects of spicy foods is that it gets your body to release endorphins, which make you feel good, and kinda take your mind off it. Of course, the sweating and the streaming nose are really attractive!

I use that method - I call it the 'scorched earth' method, the theory being that when the bugs realise how badly you treat your body, they'll leave. I can't remember if it works.

I wouldn't be too fussed about being hungover - you're going to feel crook anyway, may as well do it properly.

Depending on the severity......

a) just tough it out, take nothing keep going, pedal my bike harder and just burn through it.

b) totally wuss out, blitz the damn thing with Neurofen, Lemsip Max strength with honey, drag the duvet downstairs, on the sofa grab the TV / DVD / Cable / VCR remotes and get Bird to bring me lots of sweet tea.

But work pays for those "flu shot" things so normally i don't get anything. I also subscribe to M5Power's positive mental attitude thing which i do find helps.
