Well I decided to write this after our football team won our first game 69-0, and I rented NCAA Football 2004. Now that I have played the snot out of it, I have compiled the easy way to win, and put together an excellent team.
Choose a team
I chose the Rice Owls. Primarily because I followed them through the college world series, and also, because they are in an easy conference to get started. Also, it's kinda rewarding to bring your team from one star prestige up the ladder into 3 stars, just 3 seasons after you started. Plus, you get to kick other teams out of their conference if the conference deems you worthy.
Making the stars
First off, and most important, DONT CREATE ANY PLAYERS! The best way to have football Gods is to edit existing players before the season starts. That way you can edit anything, make all of your stats 99 and stuff like that. I made three players that could play any position, so I could rotate from Offense to Defense to Special Teams. Make sure one of them is a starting QB, one a starting HB, and a starting WR. Then go into the depth charts and put them on D, and Specials and you're set.
The season
If you chose Rice, you will have a fairly easy season ahead, and if you win every game (which you should) you'll make the Sports Illustrated cover a few times. When you get invited to a bowl, accept the invitation no matter what, because the "writers" will think it's amazing Rice is in a bowl. Then play some more seasons of quality ball and you've got yourself an excellent franchise.
Recruiting
As long as you do well, students will flock to your school. Make sure you fill spots before padding others. Also, you will want to take kids that are interested in your school, before others who want to go to Miami, or Texas. Do bad, and the selection becomes thin.
Final notes, and pointers
You will definately want to turn injuries off for starters, as I have had my QB injure his chest on a play where he ran out of bounds without being touched. Also, turn off fatigue, and offsides. These go hand in hand because you play your star players on D and blitz them. Turning off offsides allows you to run against the line of scrimmage without going over. It gives you a nice headstart on blitzing.
Also, this guide is the cheap way to turning a terrible team into a crushing dynasty. If you want to go the hard, honest way, go for it. My friend and I worked with his game for a solid month and brought Rice from one star to three stars in four seasons by getting into a bowl, and losing, but drawing interest to our school and getting good recruits. Well, thats it. I hope this helps.
