Hi guys. My dad just bought a 2001 Daewoo Nubira CDX. I was wondering if anyone has had one or has anything in general to tell me about them. My mom found some reviews online that were bad adn i wanted to know what your personal experiences are. Its for my sister. Her first car.

Well, Daewoo pulled out of the US market due to poor sales. The cars were not inherently flawed, it was just that the level of refinement of a 2001 Daewoo was on par with that of a '94 Honda, which could be had for much less, and probably would hold it's value a lot better. Of course, now we are seeing Daewoo designs with Chevy (Aveo) and Suzuki (several models) badging on them.

Ask M5. He loves Daewoos. ;)

Since GM now owns them, at least you wont have too much of a problem getting parts and repairs, since GM dealers should be able to handle them.

They were pretty good looking cars from the exterior. Most of their stuff was designed by ItalDesign-Guigaro.

Thanks guys. The car has 40,000 miles. My dad seems to think the struts are going. But he was scared to buy it becuase he thought since they stopped making them, he figured he wont beable to buy parts. Now that i know we can find parts at GM its a load off.

The shocks probably arent shot (especailly with only 40K miles). Even when new, Daewoos were often criticized for a lack of body control.

The Daewoo Lanos and Daewoo Nubira were the two outright worst vehicles manufactured in the 1990s.

Not sure which is the worse of the two.

For the record, the worst car of the 1980s is the Cadillac Cimarron, and the worst car of the 2000s is the Toyota Prius; the Nubira and Lanos are nowhere near that bad. But they're awful cars.

The Daewoo Leganza is a wholly different story, but only the Leganza CDX.

PS - I hope you have ABS and paid under $1000.

I'm curious to know why you nominated the cars you did as worst of their decade. Particularly the Toyota Prius, considering that the "2000s" aren't even over yet. How could you pick anything for the first decade of the new millenium other than the god-damned Pontiac Aztek?

I only ask because I know three different families with Prius Hybrids, and aside from the fact that they're overpriced, they all love them.

The Aztek is ugly, but I care little about styling; aside styling it's a notably wonderful value. The Prius, meanwhile, is the very worst automotive value ever. Fuel savings are considerable, but a buyer would never pay off savings over a Corolla, which gets damn good fuel economy without an absurd price. I do not see that, at the current pace, a vehicle can be worse than the Prius.

The Suzuki XL-7 is, however, running a close second.

No its a 2001 and we paid 2321 exactly.

$2321! Crikey. Rattle-trap car or not, for that money I couldnt even buy.....a reconditioned 70's beetle. 👎

Nasty, nasty, nasty car.

Sorry

But it is a very poor car.

Just as a foot note the Daewoo model range is to be sold as Chevrolet from Jan 1st 2005, the same models will be retained, just the badge will change.

Wow. Has your sister done something awful to bring shame upon the family?

The Prius returned 45 mpg on a motorway journey, as tested by Monsieur Clarkson. A diesel Yaris returned 65mpg on the same journey. And is £8,000 cheaper new. The performance isn't quite on a par, but the difference between 11s and 13s to 62mph is ignorable.

Exactly my point - though in the US, the Prius is the second-most fuel efficient vehicle, behind the Honda Insight. But there are similarly fuel-efficient vehicles like turbodiesel versions of the Volkswagen Golf and Jetta, and the Toyota Echo, essential a Yaris sedan.

Except Toyota isn't making the Echo anymore now.

They'll be selling them through at least the end of Spring if they stopped making them today, so I don't care too much about whether they're being made right now or not.
