Jnr Jnr Jnr - Dale Earnhardt Jnr is NASCAR's most popular driver by a long way, but why? I've followed NASCAR for a few years now and yes he had a lean streak in recent season,s but I still struggle to understand how he is so popular?

Is he just riding on the legacy of the father? Was it DEI? What is so special about him?

(And I know that NASCAR fans are fiercely loyal, but should we have any out of control flaming or baiting I'll lock this.)

I think it has a lot to do with his father, but also the fact that he was very successful at the beginning of his career and excelled at most of the tracks Sr. did. I think that made him the next Sr. in peoples eyes so they have stuck with him since Sr.'s passing and over the current span of little success.

I will say that his popularity has had a negative impact on his results though, seems he has too much going on (restaurants, bars, a race team etc...) and doesn't have as much time as he needs to focus on racing.

A lot of people have defined his career as a 'media creation' but as of now, he is 3rd in the Nascar Sprint Cup Points Standings and is doing very well under new Crew Chief, Steve Letarte.

I feel that owning a Nationwide team like Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick last year may have impacted his results more than anything. Its all well and good to race a car but to own a team as well, that's a heavy workload. Of course, Tony Stewart proved this theory wrong but there are many opinions to why his results haven't been so good in the past few years.

He is popular because of his father and his father was a legend and very reminiscent of Ayrton Senna. Tragically died doing what they did best, were extremely popular and had a very distinct persona.

I think in years to come, Danica Patrick might become just as popular as Dale.

So essentially his momentum comes from the beginning of his career and the end of his fathers then... Thats how it sounds to me..

Is he the one sponsored by Mountain Dew? I enjoy Mountain Dew.

Yes.

"I love the taste of Diet Dew... what'ya want for it?"

I've been a Jr fan since before Sr was killed. My dad was a big Sr fan and he kept trying to get me interested so I chose to root for the Budweiser car which happened to be Jr. It worked out good cause me and my dad were supporting the father-son team. Even though his career hasn't been progressing as fast as most of his fans would like, I still support him because I like him as a person. He's not pompous or a dirty racer. He doesn't try to race like his dad, he is his own person. And he doesn't start drama like some other drivers. He always recognizes his fans and seems to really want to win. He's hungry and he'll get back to the wins soon. And he's currently second in points. I agree that he won most of his dads fans but I feel most of us stuck with him because of the person he is.

You know, some senior fans went to Harvick. If you ask me Kevin Harvick (Who took over sr's ride after he died) is better successor to Dale "Spiritually" speaking of course.
