The GP3 Series is one of 2 feeder series for Formula 1, alongside GP2, and was introduced in 2010. Like GP2, GP3 gives new drivers the experience of racing in a Grand Prix and takes advantage of the infastructure of the proper F1 GP. Some drivers who started in GP3 have moved up to GP2 and some have even went on to race in Formula 1, including Esteban Guiterrez, Valtteri Bottas and Danlil Kvyat.
The series races at the same venues as some of the F1 Grand Prix's and the cars, like GP2, are built by Dallara and given the "GP3/--" designation, with the final 2 digits being the first year of competition. The GP3/10 was used from 2010 to 2012, the GP3/13 was used from 2013 to 2015 and the GP3/16 is currently being used in the 2016 season and will be replaced by the GP3/20 in 2020.
The GP3/16 uses an N/A 3.4 V6 producing 400HP with a Hewland 6 speed manual and the cars will use Pirelli P Zero tyres, similar to those used in GP2 and F1.
