I didn't think standard cars would damage like this. In other news, I'm not a big fan of truck races.

So standard cars CAN get visual damage... That's good to know! I thought I was imagining my Honda Civic Type R '03 having damage.

That's quite decent.. I guess parts don't fall off the standard cars, but they do get damage. Its good to know.

The damage on standard cars looks like someone got giddy with the smudge tool on Photoshop. Nice to have it in though.

Here is a better looking standard car with damage. Standard cars, like I said, have a decent damage model and are more than just mere dents and scratches as some claim...

anything with textured headlights look like arse with damage.
bent headlight glass.... yeah ok.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic but how does that picture show "Standard cars [..] have a decent damage model and are more than just mere dents and scratches as some claim"? There is nothing more to Standard car damage than simple dents and scratches. The problem with the simple deformation on Standard cars is when it unaturally bends things like headlights it just makes the car look strange. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we got some form of damage but it's kinda hit & miss for me.

You must have a different GT3 from me, or have forgotten how it looks. I played it yesterday, its cartoony.. Not like standard cars at all.
I agree, but what I meant was that specific picture does GT3 make look better.

I personally think that they should've ditched the damage modeling for standard cars. What's the point having it anyway, concerning how it turned out?

The point is it's new technology in a Gran Turismo game. It's not as extensive as you might want it to be, but at least it's finally there! We were all complaining about no damage in GT for YEARS, well now we have it. I'm just glad standard cars can also be wrecked up. 👍

Personally I'd rather have damage than no damage. If I ram against a wall, or hit some other car hits me, call me crazy, but I want to see something visually happen. I mean, look at it this way: what if GT5 didn't have damage? Then we'd all be complaining about that!

What the f:censored: is happening to all the Legendary GT cars?
Why is that subaru sti a standard car? :(

I was using that exact same truck on that exact same race when I spun out and slammed against the wall a few times. The damage wasn't anything amazing, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was there. :)

I get your point, although I never ever really cared for damage, yet I'm glad that there is decent damage (for premium cars) in the game. I just don't get it why PD, on the whole, took their time to apply a half ass'd damage model on standard cars. It's better than nothing, that thing is sure, but still...

essentially i think the damage model is effectively the same for both premium and standard model cars.

the different being that the premium cars are modeled to much higher detail, the bumpers/doors etc are seperate parts, so mesh deformation can show them separating, i don't think this is the case with standard cars which simply appear to be more along the lines of a textures shell.

instead of 2 panels seperating, it considers them to be 1 and just deforms them as such.
its effectively a limitation of the car model rather then the damage model.

One of the best I've seen was the mangled front of a RUF RGT (or similar) in my rear view mirror.
As a result of looking at it my Gallardo ate a bit of concrete, but it didn't end up looking much different IMO.

It varies though, 25th Anniversary damage looks like a 4 year old attacked it with some sandpaper.

Still, not complaining. It's something

The damage on standard cars was a pleasant surprise to me. They only said that standards would only get scratched and dirty but they actually have deformation. Also one time I rear ended a standard and the bumper was hanging loose! At least I'm pretty sure it was a standard.

People always praise GT3/4 graphics. I don't think they remember the same game I do. Standards look way better than those games. Let it go!

Exactly. 👍
I still play GT4 and it looks pretty ugly on the big screen. It used to look nearly life-like (for me at least) but then when I got used to PS3 graphics it just looked worse, especially after playing GT5 Prologue.

Just in general, the damage in GT5 blows :(

My gripe is, if I have to pay 500,000 after a few races to repair my chassis, that car better be torn up!!!

If the AI spins you out in a single race, and then every car in behind you rams into again and again because they aren't smart enough to know to go around, then the repair bill can add up quick, and for all that money and wrecking your left with a barely noticeable dark spot on a random place of your car
