well i was bored and i came up with a damage system and i would like to know how you guys feel about it,

i think that in Gran Turismo 4 although you get the 10 second penalty for hitting cars or walls... or whatever, there should be a limit to how much you hit/crash into things, the more the percentage the slower your car goes, once its maxed out your car should fail on you resulting in DNF and the consequences would have to be to put your car in a a shop for a few days (seeing that Gran Turismo has days that pass by) it should be in there for at least a week or so and as your car is being fixed you can do other races :D :D

to me this adds alot to the realism. what do YOU think

Face it. I don't think it's going to happen. Kazunori Yamauchi has worked closely with car companies and decides not to allow cosmetic damage. EA could do it because they have such a deal together.

As a GT racer, I don't think I want to see one my GT-One smashed up after colliding into a wall. If car damage is allowed, the car makers won't be very happy with KY or PD.

ehhhhhhhhhhh... i forgot to mention, no i did NOT mean physical damage. but damage as in like there was tire damge in gt2 except for this just damage on the whole car. casuging it to go slower...

IIRC GT2 had that type of thing, except in the end the car became undrivable, rather than DNF'ing.
The drivetrain got damaged the more you hit it into walls. It was optional and not very popular (as one good hit and it's no longer drivable), so I'm not surprised that it's no longer in GT3.

I agree with Glut. Me and my crew had a lot of discussions towards damage, and we came up with these conclusions:

- only types of mechanical damage that would be appropriate for the gameplay (without ruining the experience) would be gearbox failures (problems in shifting), and power-downs of bhp due to turbo/intercooler/exhaust damage

- visual damage would be nice, but it would make GRAPHIC LOOK LIKE CRAP. So, some kind of layering on the chasis that would draw scratches on paint would be more than enough, and if it could be saved on memorycard it would rock. Notice that recent news from Sony suggests that GT4 will be hard-disc compatible, so maybe we could even expect it toghether with long-awaited skid-marks.

- there is also a whole discussion we did due to inclusion of true collision damage and psyhics, but I don't thing that noone wants to read it, so I'll stop here, with one small notice: it would be great if the cars could be turned-over. That's all.

Well visual damage will not happen, but the point here is not visual but actual damage... just becuase they dont add visual damage doesnt mean they cant add damamge, make it so tires get messed up, fenders etc.. make it so you just have a little pictue showing the damamge and there more you hit the less your car respondes and harder to drive, and after hitting a certain amount your out of the race and the car is "un-drivable" thats how it should be done..

yea it wont be implemented into the game, even though it would add tot he realism, people would not like it, when i first started playing the game i used the rail as a guard, so all the new peopel would find it much more difficult and sto playing

i still laugh when I see the "no damage because the manufactures don't like it" excuse. The fact is, 500+ cars and damage = a massive amount of work. Visual damage is also system eating.

It's not so much of an excuse, certain manufacturers are fine with damage, but some others just won't have it on some cars. Sure you can say PGR2 has it, race driver has it, but neither feature as wide a varierty of cars as GT does, also you have to consider the damage in PGR2 was far from realistic, RD was reasonabley realistick in that it kept the game playable so it wasn't one big crash and your out but then rd didn't have many cars to get a licence for it from, but KY has already said, if he was to put damage into a GT game it would be realistic. Manufacturers have a problem with this because it would mean showing their cars literally ruined and undrivable.

No damage needed.

Good crash physics.

- Risk to roll over,
- to drift far away in the grass, so you need a lot of time to get on the track again,
- to make a spin in which you loose a lot of time,
- get destabilised and loose control.

That makes racing exciting.

To be on the limit of loosing control, with huge consequences if you loose.

This is what I'd like to see in GT 👍

Hey hey, maybe come GT5 we'll get to roll over Mercedes A Class cars

Plus cars wheels should lift off the ground when going around a corner sharply.

I think it will. I would swear in the instant replays in GT4:P that the Type R is on the verge of lifting the inside rear...

it wouldn't be anything new for Gran Turismo.

- Sean, who remembers two-wheeling it around Deep Forest in a race-spec miata in GT1.

and hi, I'm new here :)

Welcome to GTP, I don't recall wheels lifting off the ground in a Maita, but I had a race tuned Demio which you could get right onto 2 wheels round a tight corner.

👍 sankyuu sankyuu, you just basically explained what i was trying to say  yes that is what i am talking about ^

i dont think that is very realistic or right, i have friends who love Gran turismo but suck, so they can only play to a certain point, if the penalties were in place it would discourage novice players
