Squareloop
just viewed the SuperGT video and got this brainstorm - PD says manufacturers don't want damage done to their pretty cars, well ok, only allow damage on real race cars like the SuperGT's or the new tuner cars in GT5P? Accomplishes two things: gives us the race cars we really want to drive and the damage needed to slow down the brashers. Just a thought. Squareloop. Sorry if I crashed you out in some race, I'm trying to race pure believe it or not!

The problem with that idea is consistency, it doesn't provide gamers with a consisntent game. What if you race your highly tuned road car against a race car, what if during that race the two cars collide. The race car gets knackered but your mr invincible road car doesn't. Hardly fair, or consistent and the alternatives such as not allowing road cars and race cars to compete, ever, are not great.

Something isnt right with their reasoning. If conventional wisdom dictates the future, history tells me that every (big name at least) manufacturer that is in GT has also been in another game/sim that has allowed damage. Look no further than the Forza series.

I think that Polyphony's main reason is because it is extremely difficult and takes that much more time to render a vehicle clean, then with all kinds of different damage. It consumes times, space (memory) and eats all of their resources.

I personally dont want damage if it means the GT5 will be delayed any longer. I dont look at my car anyway (cockpit view) and a crash is usually enough to take me completely out of the race (restart/retire). Be smart about creating and implementing penalties instead of damage.

Use the extra memory for more races and tracks! PD does a good job at giving us the cars we really want. I'd personally love to see all the F1 tracks in the game, and then add in the 2008 F1 roster and you could have a not so "mini" game within GT5.

I agree with both responses. And actually Cfar's reply calling for more cars, more tracks, more accurrate physics and AI is spot on when you think about it. The ideas is after all to race and not to crash. Rubbing is racing and is and should be part of GT but that does not need to be accompanied with parts flying off cars. You are both right; if I want parts flying I'll go race Motorstorm and laugh and have a ball! But when I want to race - really race, there is nothing like GT. Thanks for the cold splash of water - give me the details, the tracks, and the machines too.
