My GT5 disc has developed a crack at the center; it has been there awhile but got just a bit bigger today and now the PS3 will not read the disc :( (it reads other games on BlueRay just fine, so I am sure it is just the GT5 disc that is scuppered).

I can get a new one easy enough, but what happens when I put that into the PS3; do I have to start all over :yuck: or will it just be as if I was using my original disc? :D Or?????? :nervous:

Any files I should back up? I already back up the game save data on a regular basis but I am not sure if there are others I should also be saving to my PC.

Thanks for any insight from the experts here on the 'Planet :)

EDIT: Seems I got my answer as far as using an original version (no issues, just put the disc in and go!), but now the next question, what if I load up the XL version, will I be starting again? See posts below for that part of the discussion!

Save data/game data/dlc is not unique to GT5 game discs, so just purchase a new one and you'll be away.

:D provided the new disc is the same region as the old one of course.

As others have said, this should not be an issue at all. I had to do this with my GT4 copy myself.

 Thanks for the quick responses! That is what I was hoping for but I was worried it would be like the PS3 hard drive, ie tied by serial number to specific hardware. Glad to hear that there should be no issues.

Now to see if I can find one of the "new" releases :p

You mean like GT5 Spec II and GT5 XL Edition? I don't think those will work since it's a different game. It's just like Midnight Club LA and Midnight Club LA Complete Edition.

This happened to me (lost in the post, not damaged) bought a new disc (not the collectors edition like mine was) and It's no problem, even when I started a new profile all the chrome line cars were still there. Proceed with confidence.

SpecII/XL should hav the same PS Game ID as their first version. The only difference is that all patches till 2.0 (or.2.02?) already applied to disk. There is no reason to make new game ID.

Ah yes, that is the question. Assuming I can find the XL, will it work the same as the original version or is it indeed a new game?
