In addition to the already overly restrictive features of Windows Vista, Microsoft wants to turn all PC's into consoles so they can completely control the gaming market. They seem to honestly think that PC gamers will pay for XBox Live when they play games on Vista, despite there being free systems very similar to XBox live on the PC such as Gamespy Arcade:
Article
While it's been confirmed that pre-existing Xbox Live Gold members can extend their memberships to PC usage, it's unclear how Microsoft will woo PC gamers who aren't tied into Live through Xbox 360. As standards go, PC gamers have longed enjoyed online multiplayer for free -- though certain titles, like World of Warcraft, demand monthly subscription rates that well-exceed Live's asking price. "We're not crazy enough to think that people will suddenly start paying $50 a year to get something they already get for free on Windows ... all I can say now is that we're working to make a Gold membership worthwhile even if you're only connecting to Live from Windows Vista," Wolf hinted slyly.
I hope to god Microsoft fails bitterly at this. I hope to god. I hope they get sued for it as well. Punitive damages, anti-trust violation, the whole nine yards.

No, but they can try and force developers to only use XBox Live for multiplayer.

the L337 haxors would help us with another way to play against eachother. there are already programs that could do the job if made , like hamachi. i dont know if there's a version with vista support yet...

Oh 🤬.

I hate Microsoft....

You realize that as soon as Mac became Windows compatible , Bill Gates ran to the store to buy one right? :grumpy:

This is really ****ed up because when it flops it won't hurt Micro**** and they will just pay everyone off with a $15 check.

My past criticisms about the XBOX is that most games look like PC's on a console. With this deal in place... you be the judge.

Online gaming is certainly not important enough for me to pay for it, especially as the PC has had a long history of free online gaming experience.

Not really. Microsoft has a huge chokehold on the US's computers. They can afford to piss us off a bit :grumpy:.

Has* is the present tense. And as has been proven many, many times, dominance doesn't last forever.

Microsoft had* a choke hold on the US market, I don't see it this way anymore. With this Xbox live stupidity, and Halo2 only on Vista. Since when can I shell out this type of money anytime I want to play something, just ridiculous.

Looking over the original article, it doesn't sound like Microsoft is going to try to make online gamers go ONLY through Xbox Live, but merely that they will extend the Xbox Live Gold subscription to include compatibility with Microsoft Windows Vista. If that is, in fact, what the plan is, then Microsoft is actually working from the other side of the table - attempting to expand the Xbox market - instead of trying to force Xbox live onto PCs (let me know if that made any sense )
