The first Darksiders was an excelent game, in my opinion. A bit short, maybe and yeah, it had its fair share of flaws. However, I enjoyed it quite a bit and am of the opinion that it's one of the most promising new franchises as of late. With its mixture of God of War/Devi May Cry-esque combat and the Zelda-themed puzzling and adventure part, it instantly struck a chord with me.

And Darksiders II is one of the few must haves for me. Can't say that I'm too happy that they're using ingame content like that as a preorder bonus, though. I would've preffered it if it was just armor and other visual stuff, but... Oh well.

Good thing my birthday's in late August. Would be one expensive month for me, otherwise

I think these two videos haven't been posted yet:

Anyways, I can't understand why Darksiders II is getting so little attention. Part one went udner the radar already, which is a shame, in my opinion. Granted, it was released around the same time as Bayonetta and almost everyone I know was hyped by that... I was basically the only one who got DS back then  But I won't stop to shove Darksider into people's faces until they realise that it is a truely great game. And hopefully, a great franchise, as well.

Besides, I'm gonna preorder DS2 today. I'm actually tempted to get the Limited Edition, that Death Mask is quite sweet. But... I'll get all the important stuff (Argul's Tomb DLC and the "exclusive side quests" by just peordering and getting the First Edition, so yeah... Probably not worth the additional 30 bucks

Those might go to another Darksiders 1 copy, as I've sold the game on a while ago. Would like to play through the first part again, though, even if it's just for the story

That "Death comes for all" trailer looked pretty cool.

Looked like we'll be fighting War, too? Cool stuff, in my opinion. Reminds me of Devil May Cry 3, in a way. A good way.

Darksiders II rewards players with Darksiders save data with legendary items

examiner.com
Those who have played Darksiders will unlock the Pauldron of the Horsemen in Darksiders II. This is a level 5 legendary armor piece that boosts all of Death's stats as well as his critical damage. Gamers who completed Darksiders on any difficulty will also earn a level 1 legendary scythe called the Chaos Fang which will boost Death's damage and critical damage.

The in-game item unlocks are based on Achievements/Trophies you have earned.

Sounds nice. I won't be getting too much, but I guess I'll try to get some more trophies. I'm currently replaxying DS1, anyways.

Darksiders II will also feature an arena mode, called "The Crucible". Death will be able to face up to 100 waves of enemies and will be rewarded with items for defeating them. After every five waves, you'll be able to either take the loot you've earned so far and leave the arena or try to take on the next five waves for better loot - unless you're dying, in which case you'll get nothing at all.

Any progress made in the Crucible mode will seemingly carry over to the main game and New Game +.

/edit:

damn it, it took me nearky 20 minutes to find an English source and I got tree'd

Pretty nice trailer. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

I'm currently replaying Darksiders - almost forgot how good that game actually is 👍

I have to say, I've played maybe the first two hours of Darksiders (up to meeting the guy who runs the shop... That's abstract enough to not be a spoiler, I'm sure) but I'm not really having much fun. I should add that I've never really enjoyed the hack 'n' slash genre, played a demo of God of War and turned it off after five minutes, but does it get much better or stay about the same? When I give up on a game I can never tell if I'm being fair or not, but if it's more of the same then I think it's just not for me. I got it for free (sort of, from PS+), too, which doesn't help; I'm sure if I'd paid money for it I would care more.

Well, dunno. If you're not into the whole action adventure genre, you'll likely not get into it while playing Darksiders. I mean, yeah, it does get a bit more interesting in a few ways, as you unlock more abilities and items. Puzzles also tend to become more prevelent as the game goes on, but the basic formula stays the same and you'll be spending a lot of time by fighting all kinds of enemies.

Darksiders is basically a mash-up between God of War and The Legend of Zelda - I suppose that one has to like both of these genres to really get into the game. So, yeah, it's probably not worth to keep playing... But, if I was you, neema_t, I'd watch a Let's Play or something, to get an idea of how the game's going to evolve.

Hardly anything happens up until that point but I wasn't too impressed either and I have played further than you (just before the first big boss up the stairs in some castle). I didn't really see the greatness either so I put it down, but I think I will as I progress once I pick it up again. I tend to spot games that I will like despite slow starts. I really love Heavenly Sword and DMC4 so I'm ok with the whole hack n slash gengre and I paid for it so that matters too I think.

Sometimes I think I'm giving games too many chances actually but almost always I end up finding the fun and seeing what is good about a game. A prime example of that is what I play now - Armored Core: For Answer. It took over than ten hours of pure stubbornness to break through. But now I understand the parts, how to move around and now I have the coolest missiles so it's awesome and I'm glad I hung in there :)

I think the biggest difference between the beginning of the game and later parts is that you're actually starting to get more options. Not only in terms of combat, which makes it far less repetitiv, but also in terms of exploration.

I do hope that Darksiders II will offer a better start, though. It always sucks if the game isn't offering a decent start.

The loot system sure looks promising. That should enable you to put a lot more time into Darksiders II than you would've invested in the predecessor.

The first reviews are in.

IGN: 7.5
GameSpot: 8.5

GameSpot's User Score is currently at 9.0 and Metacritic at 85, with only two "mixed" reviews and 24 "positive" ones.

And Destructoid gave it a 90 - which is good, as they're usually matching my impressions fairly well.

Started playing it today and, so far, I'm quite happy with it.

Granted, going through half a dozen DLC codes was a pain in the butt, but still. Just finished the first few dungeons, leveled up a bit and have been nicely rewarded for my exploration.

I'm pretty sure you'll love it! I've been enjoying the game quite a bit so far, at the very least. It has a few issues here and there, but still massively good.

I'm really enjoying Darksiders II. Yesterday, I met up with Nathaniel. Death is at a character level of 28. Defeated Gorewood quite early on, he was a pain haha. So far I believe I'm about 23 hrs within the game. I'll be playing more tonight. 👍

The combos, combat & customization(weapon/character) are very nice. Ran into a couple bothersome glitches, one that almost cost me 21 hrs of hard work. I hope Vigil release a patch that includes the ability to back-up save files to external devices & the ability for more than just 2 save files.

I'm not sure if it is my controller or what, but the control at times seems off. The combat and combos are nice & flows well, not always, but good enough I suppose. Numerous deaths on the wall traversing elevating rubble scene haha.

The team is working fast to address priority issues, these notes along with others not listed are issues the team hope to address in the updates to come.
