Would it be possible to add a date stamp to each thread so that when scrolling through the list of threads for a given forum, one can see when it was made by the OP for that thread? Currently it just lists the name of the OP. So many times I've gone into a thread series only to find that it's old and contains info which is no longer relevant to my current query, or is purely outdated info. I do realize I can get a hint of a threads age by the number of replies it's received. Just a thought to make the site a tad bit easier to navigate. Thanks in advance for considering this.

Threads in a forum are listed in order of most recent reply. Besides that, there already is a stamp on them. If the post was today, it shows the time on the far right by the latest poster's name. If the most recent post was yesterday, it says "Yesterday". If it is older than that, it shows the date.

No, not the dates of the replies to the thread, the date of the original thread by the original poster. Currently the only way to know this is to click on the thread and read when it was posted. I'd like to see a date stamp next to the original posters name in the list of threads for any given forum. It'd be a very easy way to tell at a glance if a thread is old or new.

I understand that, but why would it matter when it was created if the thread was still active?

If it was 3 years old but the latest post was yesterday, the conversation has surely moved past the original material, or things have been updated, or corrected.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but aren't you a regular user of the site like me? Shouldn't I be talking with a mod or admin about this? It's not like you can do anything about it so what's your interest in it anyway?

He was only trying to help. What do you expect to happen, when posting a thread on this site, everyone to ignore it? If you want a mod or admin answer, I'm sure they will be along in good time. Or you could pm them.

Is this when you're browsing through the forum structures, or when you're searching?

In the Search box, on the left hand side, there's a parameter "Find Posts from <date> <and newer>".

In the standard threads list, at the bottom, there's a Display Options field, which allows you to list threads in order of Last Post (the default), Thread Start (what I think you're asking for) and a number of other parameters.

Finally, in My GTPlanet, under Options, Thread Display Options, there's an option "Default Thread Age Cut Off" which allows you to list only threads of a certain age.

Hope that helps.

I'm aware of that. Given the area of the site I had thought mods or admin would be policing it rather than regular members. No problem really, was just curious.

While browsing the forum structures. Say I'm in GT5 Videos for example, the top thread is called "Gold Licenses with Commentary (Complete B1-S10)", and the thread was made by "Stune". I have no way of knowing when the thread was originally posted apart from actually clicking on the given thread and reading the info attached to the original posters header. My suggestion is to place the date of the original post next to the OP's name in the thread list, in the example, just to the right of the OP's name "Stune".
I'm a long time member of another message board and this is sadly missing on that site as well, and people are constantly resurrecting ancient threads and posting in them, most of time without realizing how old the thread really is. Some of those old posters aren't even active members of the site anymore.
It's not really much of a bother to enter any given thread to check it more in depth, then back out again. It's just a suggestion to help streamline the site as I know they can become quite clogged with useless info and threads.
I'll look into your suggestions more. Thanks for the reply.

A lot of the more long-term members lend a helping hand answering questions like this :).

GilesGuthrie covered about as much as you can find in the current board software, for what you're asking. You can sort forums based on Thread Start, and the Advanced Options tab for the Search feature also allows you to sort by that. I don't think you can set that as your default viewing option, however.

Now we're getting down to the gist of it. If I read you correctly, what I'm suggesting isn't possible at this time due to the software lacking that function? Explanation accepted if that's the case.
I prefer the default thread views as they list newest at the top, with the freshest replies as well. Thank you.

That's correct. Though it's an interesting idea, the current forum software does not support such a feature and I am actually not aware of any platform which does at this time.
