An odd, and tragic, thing this.

I'm a little reluctant to mention this, as given the circumstances I can understand, and indeed am of the opinion that it is more than probable that David Kelly, caught in what is for someone of his position and experience an intolerable situation, would have opted to have committed suicide, but...

(draw breath)

...has it struck anyone that it's a little 'coincidental' that the chief figure in the discrediting of the central 'Iraq seeking nuclear weapons' intelligence that was one of the central pieces of the 'Coalition of the Willing' going to war, just goes, at the height of the controversy, and kills himself?

I mean, it wasn't like there was much hanging on it - just potentially the fates of the US and British Governments.

I'm a little surprised there's been no suggestion of it in the media - it could possibly be seen as being a bit too sensitive, but these are the same organisations that had compunction in showing footage of the dead laid out near the US Embassy compound in Monrovia.

As I say, I think it's extremely unlikely that anything underhand has happened here - but it is a little 'odd', don't you think?

Odd yes.

If the fellow was actually lying to Prime Minister Blair, how can we blame the Prime Minister if he went into Iraq based on Dr Kelly's assertions? It'd be preposterous - perhaps Dr Kelly thought (and maybe rightfully) that he would take some of the blame for our supposedly false pretenses for war. But if a liar British scientist was the 'British intelligence' President Bush used in his State of the Union speech, we clearly need somebody in office who can discern what's true and what's not, or at least somebody whose appointees can.

That was pretty bad - Brit Hume usually warns before showing stuff like that but he didn't tonight and it looked horrible.

While I agree that the thought struck me instantly that it was a little coincidental, on reflection, that very same point made it seem pretty unlikely that it actually was foul play.

Certainly the government is capable of something much less obvious if such a need arose. They're already on shaky ground, and while no one is behaving spectacularly well, I doubt any of them is dumb enough to strike a match in the dynamite shed.

What are youtalking about? That intelligence was darn good. Clearly you're a whining, nay-saying, liberal idiot.

Well, this is the Bush administration. In case you haven't noticed, they're not real big on dissent.

It was the first thing that crossed my mind. But I must be a concocting a conspiracy. Yeah. Everything's fine... Now shut-up and support the troops.

No!

It must be a conspiracy. Obviously if anyone dies that has anything to do with politics right now it must be a coverup. I'll bet bush went out and killed the guy himself.

Don't tell anybody, but I killed Vincent Foster.

I love to fake handwriting.

If the story I read was true, I think this guy just took the cowards way out. Leaving his wife behind to face this all by herself, not admiting to lying, or feeling ashamed for lying and covering up for two countries that can easly handle the situation. His selfish act was pointless. Some might think of a cover up, but I really don't see it.
