Hi, GTPlanet.
I wanted to play through Max Payne, but I picked up "Dead to Rights." Now before I begin, this is the Playstation 2 version I rented, not the XBOX version. The same gameplay elements remain, even if they are different. So, here goes.
If you are unaware of the storyline, you play as Jack Slate. Apparentely, while trying to stop these thugs at a construction site, Jack finds a dead body, and he later finds out it is his dad who took a dirt nap. As Jack Slate, it is your job to find out who killed your father and seek revenge in the worst way- in a blaze of glory!
The game is a little hard at first, but it is actually pretty fun to just go through an area and blast away at evil. There are 15 chapters in the game. You go from a construction site, to the city, the prison, Chinatown, and points in-between until you finally make it to a deadly shootout in Chapter 15. Along the way, you'll encounter security guards, construction workers, GAC Units, Choppers, clowns, even cute Chinese girls with shotguns and machine guns. Be prepared to earn your pay with fist fights as well. The number of different mini-games keeps the game very entertaining and very enjoyable. Some of the boss fights were hard, so I had to rely on some walkthoroughs online. But when you look at it, Max Payne was cool, but DTR was a game I should have bought a long time ago (just like "Le Mans 24 Hours").
I don't know about the PS2 version, but the game kind of slows up. So maybe that's why it was better off on XBOX. Thankfully, the game does not crash. My favorite chapter in the series is Chapter 4. I don't know. A dude trying to hunt down some henchman in Chinatown. I kind of like that theme of Asian-inspired locales. And for you girl-crazy guys, they have massuses in pink dresses and high heels... with guns! And you meet up with this hot babe (this other one)... with guns of her own, that you need to protect.
All in all, I'd say this about the game:
Concept: 9/10
Execution: 9.5/10
Sound: 9/10
Graphics: 8.5/10
Challenge: 9.25/10
Action: 9.75/10
Expect to play for: The game said I through it for almost 6:30:00 (six hours, 30 minutes approx.)
Well, another game review from me. Good night to all of you. Go play a game.
