I have recently killed my 40GB fa PS3 by playing LA NOIRE

I have since sorted a swap for a 160GB slim, However...

I BET YOU CAN GUESS WHAT'S COMING NEXT...

I have lost all my GT5 save data
I was at Level 33
As you can imagine, I'm not very happy with this

LA NOIRE is fine, as I had only just been promoted to VICE
and I'll also have the benefit of completing early cases with hindsight

But

GT5 is a pain in the backside!

I've spent so much time on this game
(as most of you can sympathise with)

So, what can I do, besides starting from scratch?
I've heard that SAVE DATA on GT5 is 'copy protected'...Any ideas???

Also, my old PS3 has gone back to Sony
I hadn't backed it up for almost a year
due to it being my 3rd,
and believing that it was impossible to kill 3 PS3's

YES, I'M ON MY 4TH PS3!
Can anyone beat this?

1st died of a faulty BLURAY player
Death by overheating for 2 & 3...

Anyway, Sensible answers and advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks for taking the time to read this guys

Back up your save data. You never know what could happen. Dead of PS3, hard drive failure, save data corruption, power failure while writing the save data...

Bad news buddy, nothing you can do without a back up save. You'll have to start from scratch & learn from the experience. I feel your pain :(

BTW dude you can fix the ps3 fro about 2-3 months if u buy thermal paste, a heater and some alco, theres loads of guides how to fix it and that way you can get your saves and data or just play again and if it breaks then fix it again thats what iv been doing for the past 1 year, fix takes about 2h so its quick and its pretty easy man.

That'd be handy but the OP said his old PS3 has gone back to Sony.

Ouch... You should have saved your data man. I save every time once I'm done.

PS3s die playing heavy games like GT5. Therefore, sorry to sound harsh, there's no excuse not to have been expecting it. Especially as it's happened to you before.

My PS3 has been fine for 4 years but I still backed up my GT5 data every week.
Last month my PS3 stopped reading discs. It didn't affect my ability to access the save data, and I got it repaired for £50 by a chap on ebay who does a 3 day turn around. But it could have died completely. But I was prepared for it based on what the chaps on here have been advising.

I'm still baffled why people moan about losing save data when we've been talking about PS3s dying due to heavy use ever since GT5 came out.

Awe man, my 60gb fatty is still running strong, almost too scared to use it now. Thankfully I have a USB back up saved.

Ha, cheers guys!

If I'm being honest, I was hoping for someone to say, "YES... And this is how to do it!"

That's a real shame, cos I had loads of money, around 150 cars, level 33, etc.

If I'm being honest, I don't really want to start from scratch...

I was just enjoying playing my mates online using the cars I had accumulated in my garage!

Surely there's a way to use a friends save... Removing the copy protection?

I reckon a save file could easily be hacked by a someone in the know... This person is obviously not me... But, It's not like we're dealing with NASA or the FBI...

Think about it...
If someone can hack the whole PS3 network, surely someone can unlock a save file? Surely someone has the answer?

Most of my mates are at similar levels... So this would be ideal...

Anyways, I'm off to kick some ass on LA NOIRE, for now.

By grinding the seasonal events you should be able to have plenty of cars/credits/xp in a short time just have your friends share cars for the events online. Send me a friends request if you need to and PM me if you need to borrow a car. PSNid opelgt1969

Does your 4 ps3's turn on?

Because if it does you can back it up by a Ethernet cable.

What you need:

Ethernet cable to transfer data

2 ps3's connected to each other via Ethernet port

Directions:
Get your Ethernet cable than put in the ports at the back of the console

Turn on both of your consoles

Than your ps3's should transfer data

Thanks

The big question is does it turn on?????

I do not it needs to show as long as the on button is on it should work!!

my wife brought me a copy of LA Noire, and I politely told her to return it, as I have learned this game destroys all fats. (besides, no time, I'm playing GT5 forever)

If you add me I´ll share my cars for seasonals, and my X2010 or any other car for A and B-spec if you decide to start over :) Just remember to write why you add me

I just had the same thing happen to me.

I bought a new PS3 slim, and used the "syncronization" function in System Settings to move all my stuff from the old PS3 to the new PS3.
Yeah, I had a friend give the old PS3 the heat treatment, to ressurrect it for that sync process.

Worked fine, didn't loose a thing! (Except money, that is...)

Just use a hairdryer for 10-15 min to heat your PS3 up! Sounds crazy, but I will work. Check youtube for videos.
Then you can start your YLOD PS3 to make a backup of all your saves.

Destroys all fats? My 40Gb fat PS3 is still running just fine. There is a few games that heat it up more than others tho, L.A. Noire being one of them, but at the same time that hugely depends on the temperature in the room.

Some maps/races on CoD: Black Ops, MW2, Dirt 1-2-3, Midnight Club & GRID makes the fans spin crazy fast as well...

Maybe I've just been lucky so far :)

My first PS3, a 40GB fat PS3 is starting to play up. Don't have a second PS3. I have copied my save game data to a USB stick. Is this all I need to do? Will it copy from the USB stick to a new PS3 ok?

I think yes

aw, that's too bad. It also happened to me in GTPSP once and had to repaeat the game all over again. Nowadays, I just back up all my saves in my USB every week and compress them via winrar to avoid data corruption when stored.

With the current seasonal events, leveling up and collecting credits goes really fast.
I had to start all over again myself 3 weeks ago. I'm already lvl 35 and have 290 cars and 10 000 000 cr. If you need to borrow cars i'll help you.

you used a crossover cable for this, right? normal ethernet wouldn´t work without a switch, i guess...

I've done this, a normal ethernet cable worked just fine. This is still no use to the OP though as he's mentioned he has already sent the faulty back to Sony.

NO. you need to transfe the harddrive from old ps3 to new one.
It's like trying to put your save on your mates ps3, will not work.

Either cable will work, the ps3's detect and sort which ever you use.

I did this when my fat died. only thing i had to do was recreate lots of thumbnail pics!

R.I.P. fatty, long live the slim. :dopey:👍

And to your game save lost, you never heared about the backup function??? :dunce:

I love the design of the fatty, but it consumates the double amount of power of the PS3 slim & it dies like flies. No way I would buy a fatty. :yuck:

I've purchased now the Gran Turismo 5 Faceplate (GameStop Exklusive) & pepped up the PS3 logo with a stainless steel plate. Looks incredible & much better as a fatty. :dopey:👍

Long live the fatty! I still have an original 60Gb PS2 compatible fatty and an original 40Gb too, they're both still going fine :D
