Deceleration understeer on sport tires

I've been getting some frustrating decleration understeer in cups that require high horsepower but limit you to sport tires. Most notable is running a Vspec2 Nur skyline at around 700 HP in the supercar cup. I've tried softening up the front springs and stabilizers to pretty soft levels, but it doesn't seem to do enough. Moving more power to the front wheels (say 40/60) helps out a bit but that sacrifices quite a bit of straight-line RWD power and still can't get enough pressure on the front wheels.

I've also had this problem in an M5 and an M3GTR (both RWD) both at around 550 horsepower. I don't want to have to add a bunch of understeer ASM to fix it, but not sure what else I can do. All of these cars have some weight reduction which seems to add to it...I guess there is less weight to get transferred forward onto the wheels this way.

I've done a little camber adjusting fron 2-3 on the front and 1-2 on the back along with some toe-out on both. Initial torque on the LSD is pretty low (10) and tried lowering the front wheel LSD to really low for more turn in. Maybe increasing it will give more grip than the turn-in it loses?

first of all, when you are going as fast as those cars go, your sense of cornering speed is skewed. make sure that you are braking enough for corners. using full downforce on those cars helps a lot with grip (in turn causes better road manners at high speed). here is my M5 setup:

8.1 spring
79 height
4 bound
7 rebound
3.8 camber
0 toe
7 stabilizer

use full downforce.

this is a friggen heavy car, so it takes a good driver to squeeze every ouce of cornering ability from this car. on this car, a limited slip will only cause more understeer. good luck

as for the skyline, awd cars understeer horribly and its hard to make them not. for the lsd put 60 all around on the front, 60 torque 60 acceleration and 5 deceleration on the rear. that stabilizes the front of the car and makes the rear want to come around some. also use weight balance towards the rear for better weight distribution overall.

dude,
im gonna give you the simple solution, win the Japanese cup with a rice rocket and take on the supertuners deal with the 350Z LM, low A-Spec points high ass kick value, than, once you got a car that is a better tuner (HPS Golf maybe) go there and get full value in a-spec points.

i dont mean to offend, but i thought that the hpi golf was absolutely horrible. it understeers like it is its job (but it sounds sick!). i jsut tuned up an impreza spec c and i left the LSD out completely because without it the back end will come around when you let off the gas. when you install it, no matter what you do, it will understeer.

The weight distro did some good things, and murdering the LSD has made some improvement. Any suggestions for brake settings on the Skyline? It seems to understeer worse when braking. Been using 10front/90rear vcd so its pretty much a RWD.

50/50 - I think I've perfected my technique with those settings and they work well. I agree though that the m5 is a goddamn brick. Obviously there was more authobahn than Nurburgring in the designer's minds. Of course, what can you expect from a big sedan?

On a side note, if you haven't check out some awesome M5 pics here: http://www.bmwm5.com/articles.php?id=23
(the engine on page 2 is crazy)

good to hear, with my subie right now my brakes are 7f, 12r and that seems to work well for light braking while turning. but be careful about high speed braking as you need to be straight or the tail will wag.

about da hpi golf, np. why would i be offended? i like it. the cars in the game will be liked/disliked by different people to suit their driving styles. the only negative (and i think this is what you mean) is when going to a new track in say a cup or something, you have to spend a long time finding the right settings for it. in conclusion it can be a bit of a ***** but, when u get it dialed in, it can be competitive with some of the LMP's! (namely R8, pescarolo, Speed 8 and i think it was the Peugot 905 but it may have been da sauber c9)
