Just something I would like to vent on (unfortunately the people that this is addressed to will most likely not read it).

Most of the threads regarding the GT5P are about online play and most of those are about etiquette (or the lack there of) well here is one more to add to the list.

When I'm racing I try to avoid contact so if I miss an opportunity to pass I get in line and wait for another. On Suzuka I found that in a crowded field a lot of people go off it in the S Curve (for one reason or another) and than there is a mad rush for the Dunlop Curve. Because so many people are just gunning it a lot of them take a bad line and consequently slow down and leave the door wide open for a clan pass. So I drop it down and move in on the inside staying clear of my opponent who is on the (far) outside of the track. So I'm all happy and proud of myself how by driving clean and being patient I was able to make a good pass and have good line for the following corner...BAMM... my friend from the other side of the track somehow thought it would be a good idea to defend his spot now that I'm already half a car length ahead of him and takes me into the wall. Now I would not feel so bad if I didn't get a F$%*ing penelty now for taking a F$%*ing shortcut. WTF!!! This was happening all night. I was finishing 3-5 th.

I'm not the best player and I don't pretend to be one, but I know when I'm beat. If I F-up in a corner and come out is some odd spot than I try to set myself as best as I can for the next corner and hopefully get back one or two spots that I've lost in the last one.

So if you F-up and get passed by someone don't try to take them down because of your mistake. Slamming the door shut in someones face at all cost is no way to win races...or is it...

I got pretty upset after trying to be "clean" so I though I would try to be DIRTY, and guess what... 1st three times in a row.

I apologize to any one that may have been there to witness this but it just goes to show you that the penalty system in this game is all backwards. Good behavior is punished and and Bad is rewarded. I'm not planing to change my driving style to the clearly more successfully one but if the private rooms don't come out soon than I don't see myself playing online for much longer.

The simple solution is don't pass in the esses unless you're positive that you'll completely clear the other car before he can come back at you. If not then wait for a better spot on the track to pass. Successfully passing in the esses is very hard to do in real life and its very hard to do in the game as well.

When we get private rooms, then you can be more confident that people won't try to take you out, but most GTPers probably wont be messing up in the esses anyways!

The pass is not in the S curve but the one after it the Dunlop curve. But just to make it clear the example I gave was the one that just got me pi$$ed, this behavior happens on all tracks and all corners.

Oh Dunlop! Yeah thats a difficult place to pass as well, I've been taken out while trying to pass on the outside of Dunlop (crazy, I know) but never on the inside. Yeah bad drivers annoy us all, and we'll just have to deal with them until we get private rooms.

As for my own defensive driving, I generally stick to my line and if someone pulls up inside me in a turn, I leave them room, but still try to carry more speed through the turn and onto the next straight and often I'm able to draft and repass them. It's much more exciting and enjoyable than simply taking them out.

The esses are my favorite part of that track. Unfortunatly, I will typically encounter someone slower then me there. I will be patient, wait to pass at Dunlop or, usually later. But by doing so, I usually get booted by the impatient boob behind me. That is why I used the Evo X when it was just a 700 race. Easier to catch. In the S2K? Not so much.

Private rooms are going to rock. Cannot wait.

I share your pain. have had idiots who use my car as a brake, especially when they are on the final lap. Or those individuals who push their cars soo hard, that they lose control and take you out along with themselves

i think it's okay to overtake on esses and other areas, as long as you know it is your responsibility to make it all the way through the pass cleanly. So if the other cars hits you, he might not have seen you, and if you cause the other car to crash no matter how slight the impact, you should wait for them. If this is too much, then it's probably a risk you are not willing to take, then simply wait for a better spot.

I understand everyones frustration with online play, it really sucks and we all know that private rooms are the only thing that will make it better. But, clean racers make mistakes too, and the way I see it is if I make a mistake and happen to get by you then I'm gonna keep going. Keep in mind, I'm not talking about slamming into someone, but if we rub in a turn and something happens then thats racing. I'm not waiting for anyone. Did you ever see Dale Earndhart pull over after he touched someone in a turn? uhhh...no! Have you ever seen any professional race driver do this because they made a mistake? uhhh...no!

My point is, mistakes happen and as long as it truly is a mistake then that's racing. The normal rammers and people like that are just a-holes and there's nothing we can do about it other than continue to race clean and try to lead by example. The communication idea is something I've done since I started playing online, and is a very good idea. Just like this forum, it's a place to explain your mistake. But pulling over and letting them by is too extreme imo. I have done it when I just spaced out and slammed the **** out of someone, but not for minor racing mistakes.

And BTW, every time I have pulled over and slowed to allow a player to pass they slam the **** out of me, so what's the point? Until we can talk in real time it's useless.

My basic plan is that if I see someone make a move for the inside of me approaching a turn, I simply don't go for the apex in an attempt to give them room.

However I will say that if someone isn't on my back yet and might be gaining fast, I will stay in the middle to attempt to block a pass up the inside.

No, but I do see penalties handed out after the race, which obviously can't happen in online racing.

Everytime I was taken out today was becauase I was slowing down to avoid collisions with traffic in front of me. Where do these people learn to race? They are essentially glued to my rear and as such when I brake for hazards, they dont expect it and end up slamming me off the track with no punishment for them.
Very frustrating.

Equally frustrating is the people who have been wiped out who decide rather than stay at the edge of the track to allow the speeding cars to go by, they drive right into the middle of the track or just turn at 90 degrees to the road, causing even more havoc.

Its as if all these people only watch the bad parts of racing, or maybe that is why. Thinking its more fun to cause the biggest crash ever than to actually allow people to race.

It would be interesting to see one race bans and such being implemented, maybe with private rooms. People could vote for them. There's loads of penalties that could be applied and the next race they affect the person, like: Pit Lane starts, extra weight or power restrictions, point deductions (if they ever come into play online), race bans, temporary licence revokes, etc.

Use my new trick - the quick stab on the brakes well before the turn - move. Any speed you lose, you get back when they punt you. Thanks to Magburner for pointing out the upside of this tactic.

I've been the culprit a few times, unfortunately it's not always easy to get a 500+ bhp, rear wheel drive beast of a car out of a gravelpit in an orderly fashion.

There's a big problem to the wait and see approach, it's called online boost. I hate this mess, it's completey dumb. I dislike it because i would pull away from racers and for some odd reason they'd catch up, i'm not driving overly aggressive, but I tend to keep my lines more affectively. It's completely unfair in my eyes, why because my driving ability allows me to get to the front and pull away, to only be caught especially when I have a more apt vehicle.

The Tuned Z06 is the best all around tuned car in prologue, it's well balanced, plenty of power and handles very poised. I will leave an S2000 off a corner and pull away, then a lap later that same car is going down the straight at a faster clip, and he was not within slip stream distance. This kind of thing needs to be deactivated within pro races, it's dumb. We came online to test our abilities against the best, but we have average drivers becoming nuisances, because they catch up then make boneheaded moves. I prefer a good driver to put pressure by out driving me, but not the AI giving him all sorts of extras. keep it fair PD.

Soo off topic.
Defending your position is ok as long as you do it within reason, in prologue this isn't really necessary as you can just allow the racer to pass and pressure him into a mistake, or wait for an opportunity to pass. the wild swerving is completely unnnecessary, tire damage would fix this as well as track build up. Sudden movements in a high powered car would result in oversteer issues and loss of control. I rarely attempt to defend my position as there is no car damage, so the other racer doesn't fear losing because his car was impaired.

I really see line defence coming up in longer races full sim races, as it takes a series of laps to mount an offensive. we'll see what happens.

I agree that when cars get bunched up, someone at the back brakes too late and someone else gets punted. However, it's a difficult thing to avoid. When I go through some turns with a large group battling hard in front of me, I tend to not give myself full throttle, waiting for them to sort it out so I can attempt to avoid hitting anyway.
