A friend talked me into getting this yesterday. This has to be the worst game I have played in a long long time. The graphics are easily the worst I have seen during this gen of consoles. The feeling of the controls may be the worst ever of any shooter I have played. It is full of bugs and almost impossible to get the X button to appear so you can get in cars with people, plus you just walk right through the cars like they do not even exist.

Just a terrible game and I advise anyone thinking of getting it to avoid it at all costs. It seems like it needed alot of work done to it before it released.

Defiance is made to hold at least 10,000 players on the servers. 100+ on the screen at once. If you are expecting great graphics and 10,000 players, then you clearly haven't read any of this thread. There is no console free to play game with this many players on the screen at once. Graphically it is similar to Crackdown and Earth Defense Force. Which were both games I truly enjoyed. You cant go into this game expeting great graphics. Not when it has the ability to hold 10,000 players. haha

I bought it last night after renting it last week and I am enjoying the game. I don't have any problems with the x button you are talking about. As for going through vehicles, that's because friendly fire is off. You cant get into other players vehicles. Do you really want 100+ players running you over at the same time. :lol:

I have seen at least 50+ players on the screen at once during the Arkfalls. The only concern I have is that it is region locked which they plan to update. So other than the region lock, I am enjoying this game and have had very little problems since a few days after launch. Plays very similar to Borderlands mixed with Earth Defense Force. I unlocked one of the 4 tier crates last night and it had some really good weapons. Including a gun for healing people. You can also upgrade weapons, and add upgrade slots. Quite a bit more customization than I expected for the weapons.

i guess you should have played the beta or rented it first...



I bought it last night after renting it last week and I am enjoying the game. I have seen at least 50+ players on the screen at once during the Arkfalls. The only concern I have is that it is region locked which they plan to update. So other than the region lock, I am enjoying this game.

region lock sucks but i will still play it, i picked it up last night hopefully we can play tonight...
 
^ Yeah hopefully the region lock is removed. I could not play with Stevo at all because he is in Europe. Hopefully it gets removed later. Its not like you are ever alone anyway. Every where you go there are usually a lot of people around. Besides the single player missions. Those force you to play solo.

If you haven't put the game in you will have a LOT of updates. Install game, patch this, performance that, and quite a bit more. Might take at least an hour.

The trouble I was having with vehicles was being a passenger. It took 5 minutes for me to get the X button to pop up so I could get in. The buggy would be there and I would just run right through it. I don't see how friendly fire would have anything to do with that. They could just make it push you out of the way or something. There are tons of other games that don't kill you when someone runs a car into you. It just seems very unpolished.
MAG had just as many players on the screen as this game does and it ran much smoother and looked much, much better than this game.

Another thing that drove me crazy is that it says 2-10,000 players co op but you can only have 4 players in a group. I was expecting much larger groups than that so we could do missions together. We have 6 people wanting to play together but that can't happen. It should say 2-4 players co op on the box 2-10,000 multiplayer online.

As for trying out the beta or renting it, I hadn't even heard of the game until yesterday. Really I just bought it to have something to play with friends besides COD and figured since this was a huge MMO we could all play together, but with the 4 man group that kind of killed that idea.

I'll still play it though since it's not COD and they all seem to be liking it so far. If nothing else hopefully this game gets them off of COD for awhile and they will tryout other games in the future besides just the COD series.

Hopefully some patches come out that will smooth out the controls and maybe fix some of the detection problems. Really though I think I'm just not a MMORPG type of guy. We fought some huge monster last night and it didn't feel like you were doing anything to add to the fight. There needed to be a lot more bad guys on the screen attacking us, but there was just one huge worm thing in the middle, and then a few things would fly off of it and just sit there and let everyone shoot at them. It wasn't like we were being attacked or anything and I really didn't see what the point of fighting it was. You could just stand there and not move and you wouldn't get hurt and the thing was going to get killed anyway. Seemed really pointless.

Hopefully I can get into it. I'm going to try and play a little today and see if I'm missing something. I really like the idea of a game and tv series interacting together, it just seems like this one wasn't done very well and really rushed out the door.

Another thing I just noticed. Is this games audio just stereo? It's not showing up as surround on my receiver.

You CAN have more than 4 friends in a group. You can have 100+ of your friends together if you want. You were probably doing the "4 player co-op" missions. That is the ONLY mode that is restricted to 4 players. Otherwise its 100+ players.

Defiance has 3 modes.

1. 4 player co-op (only allows 4 players in these modes)
2. 100+ real player co-op vs AI enemies including arkfalls. You can have 100 friends if you want. Its a full free roam 100+ player mode against the AI.
2. 100+ real players vs real players.

I am very thankful people cant physically hit you. Can you imagine 100+ vehicles all "pushing" you around like you said, that would suck. Having them drive through you transparent is perfect.

Game is in surround sound on my system. Maybe check in game audio settings.

Also not sure if you looked at the post right above yours but there are 100+ patches in that list set to be released soon. They are also giving back to the community as a thank you for being patient.

I think so I am just not exactly sure how to activate them. They might be activated already. Not sure where to tell since I am still getting used to the menus.

Oh also in terms of graphics. I forgot this game defaults with "blur" on so make sure you turn of the game blur in the display settings in the main menu. I think its called blur or screen grain or something. Turn that off.

I guess this is how you redeem the free gift..

Press start or back. Then hold Left Trigger to bring up the radial measure. Select store which is located at 6 o'clock. In store select claim items, which is toward the bottom and really small.

I also should note that I didn't have to redeem them. They were just active when I logged into the game. They are displayed as active on the upperlefthand side of the screen, near the health bar. Four little icons, and one of them says XP.

this update was released today :)

I thought the patches for TDU2 were huge but wow just wow. Look at this list. Very impressed with how fast they are working to fix the bugs in the game. I have never seen a developer respond this fast.

GENERAL
● Improved server and client stability.
● Main missions are now replayable after completion of the last mission.
● Extraction timer upped from 30 to 90 seconds to allow more time for fellow players to revive you.
● Optimized objects throughout the world to minimize pop-up and improve overall performance.

○ Players are now not able to use inventory vehicles in shadow war or shadow war vehicles outside of shadow war.
○ Changed kill notifications when killed by an NPC so that it doesn’t look like a suicide.

From what I have heard this update is having issues. No ETA on when it will be fixed. This is the recent update.

I have mainly been playing the co-op modes and the arkfall events with 50+ players against the AI.

However I decided to work on my single player campaign some more last night. It sure is rewarding when real life players show up to help with the single player campaign. I went to a farm mission last night and was getting wrecked. A couple minutes later I see more and more purple dots (real people) on the map. Sure enough, I ended up having at least 15+ players helping with my single player campaign. At the same time, its also their single player campaign so we are all helping each other. Moments like that truly set this game apart from any other games out there. So even the single player campaign can have over 50+ real life players all helping each other. 👍
 
I've put a good bit more time into the game after having to do a 3rd reinstall because of a patch error.

I'm enjoying the game strictly because I can play with friends. It is actually pretty fun to run around with a group and do the missions, but the game has to be the most bug ridden game I have ever played. There are several side missions I can't do because the X button will not show up to let me take soil samples. Some missions work great but others are unplayable.

The graphics too which have gotten better once I finally got a smooth install and patch are still horrid. I can't think of a current gen game with worse graphics.

As for more than 4 players in a group, if its possible we haven't figured out how to do it even outside of missions. It will only let you make a 4 player group. It's not a real big deal but you can only have 3 friends help you do actual mission objectives in real time. I thought they would allow huge groups the way it was advertised.

With a that said though it is gun to just get with a few friends and run around like idiots shooting brainless AI.

The patches are huge but the patch system is horrible. I doubt all the patches in the world could score this game over a 60 or so.

I think one of the reasons the graphics are poor is because of the nature of the game. Since each server can have 100+ people on it that will surely impact on graphics(for consoles). Just look at MAG 256 players and it looked rubbish.

I am quite sure you didn't read our previous replies. You CAN have more than 4 friends with you. You can invite your ENTIRE friends list! You can have up to 100 friends with you at a time if you want. We already explained this in the previous replies.

I watched it but not on syfy if you know what I mean. It was good in my opinion but I didn't really spot a lot of stuff that is also in-game(at this time). The arkfalls on the show also looked wayyy better.

I did read your replies. You can not have more than 4 friends in a group. There are also problems trying to get more than 4 friends inside of your phase so that you can play with them. I don't think you have tried playing with more than 4 people. It works about 30% of the time when you try and get more than 4 on the same phase.

I've played this game around 10 hours or so now and my friends have much more time in it because they will play be themselves. We all understand what the single player, coop, and other modes are.

Like you say you can have more than 4 people, its just not very often you can so that, and you CAN NOT have more than 4 in your group. If you can we have never figured it out and I would love to know how to do it.

The game is still super buggy also when playing with 4 in the group. Many times it will not let everyone complete objectives even when you are in the same phase.

This game needed a much longer beta stage. I'm not trying to bash it, I'm just telling it like it is. The ratings the game is receiving of 5.5 and lower is very correct. The idea behind the game is great, they just did a horrible job making it.

I still like it much better than COD though. Ill play this as long as it keeps my friends off of COD.
 
Of course it's not F2P. There's no monthly fee, but you have to buy it to play ;) Generally it's really good, but I think that as for MMO this game has such a tiny world. It should be much bigger.
 
I just bought this used as my last hurrah with Gamefly.

Do you have to play with people online or can the 4 player mode consist of CPU controlled characters.

I doubt many people are still playing this as I seen the reviews this game got. It's cool though I just need something to pass the time.
 
The main part of the game is PVE (player vs enemy) but its always online. there are some co op missions for up to 4 people against AI. When this game came out me and a lot of friends played it but they never fixed a lot of the bugs and now no one I know plays it anymore.
