\For those video gamers who have waited patiently (or not so patiently) for nearly five years for the next installment of the esteemed racing simulation series Gran Turismo for Sony PlayStation, what’s another (fill in a number from one to 10 — then add “months” or “years”)?

Letting go of a creation is hard to do. Just ask the Gran Turismo’s creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, president of Polyphony Digital, which develops the game for Sony Computer Entertainment.

At news conference at the Tokyo Game Show last fall, Mr. Yamauchi said that the Japanese release date for the much-hyped, much-anticipated Gran Turismo 5 for the PlayStation 3 would be March. And a North American release was anticipated for the summer. But Sony unexpectedly announced this month that the game would again be delayed — with no release date in sight.

This latest news has prompted speculation on blogs and forums, especially because it was shown in 3-D at last week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

“It is likely that the game is still on track for release in Japan later this year, but the original projection of a summer release in North America is out the window,” according to the tech site Fudzilla. “Some are theorizing that the title was never as close to release as Sony was suggesting, and the overly optimistic release targets were announced to combat the release of Forza Motorsport 3 for the Xbox 360.”

To make matters teasingly worse, Sony recently released the box art photo for Gran Turismo 5. It features a red Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, the gullwing two-seat supercar introduced in September at the Frankfurt motor show.

Sony apologized for the delay and “any inconvenience it may cause,” offering no explanation beyond “circumstances” that forced the issue.

Isn't this the same delay that was announced like 2 days ago by SONY? Seems like fudzilla is, well, fud.

How was GT5 delayed again? As far as I can see, March 2010 was the first official release date announced. What other date did PD announce that got delayed first?

Hello? Does anyone understand this is a little bigger than an internet gamer site covering the delay announcement?

I think it is safe to say the OP knew about this news before this article in The New York Times.

Can't be delayed "again". This is the FIRST delay. The only announced date was Japan. THAT has been delayed. Again, old news posted on the front page here at GTPlanet days ago. Thanks for taking the time to craft a nice thread though.

They delayed the delay? xD

Seriously even if the Pope gave me this news today I'd say it's OLD.

We had this debate with super mod famine yesterday. As he said there has been no delay, this thread will probably be locked.

There is no delay it's only been postponed.

Hey it was complete last November now there's another 10 percent to do. If he comes round my house asking to Tarmac my drive, he can get lost.

GT5 was listed as 65% completed at Tokyo game show 2009.

Well at least the apology I wanted from the last GT5 delayed forum has been given.

The interview they cite (the one I posted, that I stole from the 'General News' thread) also reveals 70 tracks.

Look for that in the News Section, along with GT5 making the USA Today and NY Times.

That "70 tracks" is still the same as "20 locations 70 variations" as before. Reverse or a road track inside an oval does not mean 70 different tracks.

See, I state what it says. You take what it says and put a spin on it, then state your opinion as fact. You should not do such a thing.

But you are taking this one instance as fact, when he has said it the other way numerous times before.

I (and many others) would like for people to stop skewing the truth. In order for Gran Turismo to be delayed AGAIN, it would have had to have been delayed once already (which it has NOT). Since there as been nothing but rumored release dates until the first (and ONLY) official announcement about GT5 JPN coming out in March there has been ONE delay. The one that was announced by SONY only a few days ago. So please, anyone who is here, regardless of what you read, or what any gaming website says, GT5 is delayed, but it has not been delayed AGAIN. So please for all of our sanity, STOP THIS INSANITY.
