Really don't think this is a good idea. I honestly thought the concept wasn't gonna take off but it's been voted through, wow.

The FIA will have more direct control over the championship, not good. This is going to come in to play in one of the seasons, probably even right away next year, to ruin someone's championship based on petty mistakes. I'm sure, after a few people get slammed, they'll regret implementing the system and would much rather pay for their penalties in cash rather than this new way.

And, yet again, it's a hit against F1's entertainment value. Race bans don't do much to help race fans stay committed either.

Here's the possible points system, still need to find a source:

So, you can get a race ban by missing 5 driver briefings, great idea. 👍

If both sources are correct then you need to miss 12 meetings to get a ban, then miss 7 thereafter to get a ban as 5 points are acquired for a race ban.
 
Does dangerous exit from pit stop mean dangerous pit box release, because this has happened quite often in races and isn't really the drivers fault, seems a little unfair to me. This would end up really effecting the possible championship outcome, I don't think that this is the way forward for F1 but it will defiantly make things more, um, complex.


EDIT: Oops, its not about championship points.

I wonder how it will be applied. Some drivers could make use of it for the end of the season. Let's say you had a clean season, you could take off someone at the last gp without too much trouble. You'll get -3 pts but your team and yourself could gain a lot more.
 
I'm curious as to how many times some of these things happen.

"Ignored the Weigh Station After Qualifying"
"Overtook the safety car"


What's the difference between

"Dangerously forced another driver off-track"
&
"Forced another driver off-track"

Wouldn't it be dangerous anyway?

Where's the line between Dangerous and not Dangerous?
 
Where does it say drivers will lose points from the championship? I thought the points they gain will be completely separate from their championship points.
 
Doesn't say it anywhere, I assumed they meant they would take away championship points when I first heard about this, but it's a separate points dock.
 
I can see this going real well with the F1 drivers.:lol:

Never assume, because it makes an ASS out of U and ME.

A lot of people have assumed that drivers would be docked championship points, mostly because they didn't bother to read the accompanying articles in their entirety before commenting on them. And now they all have egg on their faces.
 
In my case, I did read it fully. But my problem was I went already assuming it was going to be the case that championship points were going to be penalized as well.

Nothing too crazy, just some confirmation bias when I read through it. This is the part that got me:
"but stewards will also be able to impose points penalties for on-track infractions."

Btw, is it surprising extended testing was voted out again?

It's actually modelled on the demerit points system used by other series. I believe the BTCC has a simialr system in place.
