Demo-ing a car before purchasing?

I had this same problem with GT4 and was wondering if anyone else felt that it is unrealistic when you can't test out the car you want to buy. I don't care for a video demo, I want to know how it feels, is that really too much to ask for?

Is there any way round this problem, pardon my noobiness, but I don't want to leave any stones un-turned. :D

Borrow a stock model from a friend via PSN.

Well you can always back-up your game, and reload it again. ;)

When you choose to go car-shopping, back up your game to insure that you're hard earned credits will be insured. Then, go buy a car, and drive it to your hearts delight. If you didn't like it, no problem! Just reload your backed up saved game over the one in the PS3, tadaaa, credits restored, instant car testing!

Spiffy no?

I think it would eliminate some of the excitement of actually buying the cars you have been keeping an eye on. I see your point but on the other hand it never hurts to collect cars no matter how bad they might be and there are plenty of ways to earn quick money if you feel you wasted those you had.

Yes, it should be there.
I don't think not knowing what you buy makes it more exciting and if they want to make the proces more 'special', they could always make it so you can only demo a car you actually have the money (and level) for.
Ofcourse there's a workaround in GT5 (backup of save data) but I don't think the presence of a workaround should ever be an excuse for not implementing a good feature.

I think it would be nice to be able to try the car on a special test drive track before you actually buy it.

Another great feature PD has overlooked. :D

I wouldn't mind test driving a car before buying it.

This would just add a more realistic feeling. Especially if you had a representative from the dealership riding shotgun and talking to you about the car.

I agree with Drome if they can have Jeff Gordon tell me how to run nascar, and Vettle telling me info and how to drive an X1 then why not a dealership rep telling me about the car I'm looking to purchase. Great idea really!!

@DromeGT...Brilliant idea!! Maybe they could scream & want to get out the car if you happen to hit a wall etc ...like in GTA when you kidnapp someone lol ...ok, maybe that's going bit too far lol but quite immersive experience.

@Mynock005 Well, I don't have too many PSN buddies, and out of those, there are like 2 who own the game. :/

@AlphaAndius Hehe, quite spiffy. But when it comes to matters like data handling on my PS3, I'm quite shy as I've put it a ton of hours into it, and yeah. So, backup onto a USB Flash memory and then proceed?

@DromeGT Exactly what I had in mind... :D

Exactly, when you download a Demo from the psn you don't watch the game you actually play it.

PD is very book smart but I think they lack common sense.

I was really disappointed about that. In GT4 it was so frustrating, but it was easier to manipulate with that Special Event where you win the Toyota Rally for 250,000 Cr. XD

But seriously PD, why, oh why?

Can't you just test drive them in arcade mode? Or are those only cars you have won/bought? I saw a lot of cars there, but that may be my accumulated collection between PS3 and PSP...

Also going online you can test out the cars in the recommended list.

I wish. I know in reality Ferrari wouldn't just let you test an Enzo, but it's a video game... they should let you take a single lap somewhere generic like Toscana or Eiffel.

I wanted this feature for quite some time as well, I'm a huge fan of Test Drive Unlimited(still my all time favourite game to date) and before you purchased a car in that game, you could test drive and decide if you really did want it or not, and I thought it was a pretty useful feature.

Not all cars are available in Arcade Mode. And I'm just saying, they COULD fix this with a patch.

I mean, not how DromeGT mentioned, but just an option to test drive it on one circuit: The Nurburgring!

I'm just saying that because that'll be easier for them to do and smaller for us to download, don't forget loading times.

I agree. I've bought countless cars and been hugely disappointed.

That happened when i demoed the Escudo, the slow off the line acceleration was due to (i thought) a slipping transmisssion (drive a stock Lambo countach LP400 and you'll see what i mean). I realized after I bought the car that the slow start was due to the cars' massive turbo lag. That makes it much harder to drive.

I'm not that fussed about test driving them before you buy them. It gives me something to look forward to, to see how they turn out. If I don't like them, well there's always a way to get my money back.

On the other hand, it would be a nice feature though.

It would actually be a pretty cool feature if they gave you a little test track or perhaps a few variations of one to try out a car, or just a short piece of open road like the demo film drives on. Again these things couldn't be ridiculously hard to put in. They are probably left out to create difficulty, but there is no satisfaction if you choose correctly so it can only create tedium.

Talking about this makes me remember the old GT1 days pre auto save, it would be a life saver when you'd save up to buy the GT-R race car, drive it, find out it was a dog then quickly turn everything off to give it back. :)
