Devil May Cry 4 (PS3, PC, Xbox 360)

I have it reserved at GameStop but I don't think I'm going to be getting it, I've read some pretty lackluster things on it from actual gamers playing it.
 
i have it preordered on ps3 for a while now, flame me! :P
 
got to mission 8. id have to say the combat is very entertaining. the various different combinations you can mix together and the satisfaction of pulling off SSS combos and instant revving etc.

graphics so far....... are good. not great but not bad either, i dunno why people complain about it. but overall its good. i do have some complaints with bad shadows here and there but are barely noticeable when your fighting.

boss fights are fun as well. i havent played dmc since 1, 2 (never tried 3) and its nice to play a game with ridiculously large bosses.

bad thing is so far i think the voice acting itself is not very good. the way its shot and put together is great but voices......... yea...

cant wait to play as Dante, i've actually grown to like nero.

i hear the collectors edition isnt worth it though. glad the pre-orders came with the free art book which is nice, albeit kinda small.

You should check out Lost Planet and Earth Defense Force 2017 for the 360. EDF2017 has the largest and most chaotic boss battles I have ever seen. Especially the final boss. :dopey:
 
oo mine copy just shipped from the store, i'll hopefully get it tomorrow, can't wait :)
 
Meh... I played the demo and thought it was a typical 'hack'n slash' bore fest. And to note, I've never liked the series. It has never interested me into doing my best.
 
well you need to get deep into the combat system to really enjoy it's depth and awesomeness if you just play it like that without trying to get into it, then it seems just like button mashing game :P

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I never 'got into it.' Don't care for the theme of the game. Seems silly.
 
to each his own, i never got into rpg games though there are a lot of fans of that as well
 
I've never been into DMC kind of games but this one does peak my interest a bit. I think it will be a rental though as it reminds me of Ninja Gaiden only not ninjas. I'll try the 360 demo soon.
 
I just finished it on Devil Hunter mode.

It was pretty entertaining, sometimes even addictive. It's been many years since I've played a game of its type, so I found it rather challenging at first - getting used to combos (I had automatic off) and the sequences you have to remember for the boss fights. Basically it's very similar to the other games in the series with much better graphics. 👍

It's good to play as another character rather than Dante - I found Nero a great character to play, even better than Dante. Once you play as him, working you way backward through the story and boss fights you've already fought through became a little boring and less challenging than before. Plus the story became less focused until the very end, when it picked up again.

I don't think I'll ever try and complete the game on a harder mode. "Son of Spada" mode you need to complete the mode with at least an overall A rank per mission - I can forsee already I will be frustrated with trying to get the chain of combos on enemies without getting hit. I think I'll investigate into the achievements and see what I can actually get. :p

Overall, I give the game 8/10
 
I'm stuck on SoS mission 11 at the moment and it's really annoying :P I can't get past it and i've tried countless of times really need to step up and beat it :(

The game's really solid, gameplay depth, combos, both dante's/nero's part in the story are great and the differences between the bosses and all with the two characters. My only problem is that you don't know **** about nero, where he comes from, what's his story like how is he related to dante and that kinda thing.

I give this game 8.5/10 ;)
 
I just picked it up (PS3 version) and have only completed mission 4. So far so good, great graphics, game play true to the series, not as dark as I remember other DMC's. Perhaps due to the better lighting engine being used.

Have any PS3 users noticed any weird polygon stretches? (I have, also noticed it in Assassin's Creed)
 
not too much. all i really noticed were the crap shadows :( still love the game though.

i cant beat mission one on DMD lol
 
I've beaten the first three difficulties, Human, Devil Hunter and Son of Sparda. I just need to go back and S rank all the missions on those now before I go through dmd. I'm on mission 3 for dmd but I want to S rank the easier difficulties first.
 
I just went back to S rank mission one on SoS and it took me 4 tries. I ended up getting A for time 1:19. An S for Style and an S for orbs found. I also got the no item bonus of course. I still have a lot left to go to S rank the rest of them though, mission 18 is going to be hard to S rank.

i just got it recently. i just finished beating the first big beast, since i got gt5p i haven't really touched it. i was lucky to score it for $35 from a pawnshop, sealed and everything.
oh did i mention it was the limited edition one? i went to hmv last week and saw the game selling for $79.99 canadian plus 13% tax. very sad. i thought about selling mine online for about $70 or 60, but i know i wouldn't find a deal like that again
