DFGT 200 degree mode?

Is there a way in GT5 to set the wheel mode of the Driving Force GT wheel to 200 degrees? I'm watching some replays on YouTube of people doing the GT Academy races and they are making much tighter turns with only 200 degrees of travel (turning the wheel at most 90 degrees to make Tsukuba turn 1). If I have to use hand-over-hand to get that kind of turn in there is no way I can put down equivalent lap times.:indiff:

You can't adjust steering lock in GT5. Only open wheelers and race cars (I am not sure about that) have 360 degrees (or something like that) wheel travel. Pretty pathetic show from PD if you ask me! 👎 :grumpy:

On some wheels like the G25, the degrees of steering can be changed by software. Even GRID uses that feature on the G25.
 
Here is an example... This driver can make all of the tight turns on Tsukuba without turning the wheel past 90 degrees in one direction. I constantly have to turn up to 180 degrees (hands wrapped like pretzels) to get the same amount of turn angle. I've tried multiple entry speeds and no matter what I seem to be working the wheel much harder.

 
might depend on the car he is using?
if you check the incar veiw you can see how much lock it does or doesn't use

on 'grid' there is a definate resistance when the game cars lock is reached (i only breifly tested this) but in gt5 you don't feel any resistance when the lock is reached, i found i was turning the wheel further than i needed as it was in effective after that

the way some of those turns were taken he may be using the cars sway to help it around
 
On my Driving Force Pro, the button combo to cycle between 900 degrees and 200 degrees is SELECT R3 RIGHT PADDLE. I'm about 90 percent sure on this. Go try it.
 
Yes that's a G25 I believe...I was just demonstrating the ease of turning in 200 degree mode...When I run the same track/car I'm twisting up trying to match times.

I did some more research and the DFP button combo doesn't work on the DFGT. From what I can tell there is no way to set it from the wheel and I haven't found any hidden menus in the game.

Oh well. I guess drivers with other wheels will be in for a rude awakening when they show up for GT Academy finals if they haven't put any hours on the DFGT. Meanwhile, I'll be lucky to make it to round 2...but the turning radius is the least of my worries. I've found 2-3 seconds on the Cape ring that I can't capitalize on because I never seem to run consistent sectors. I need to take at least 1 second off Tsukuba so I guess I'll just keep at it.
 
The 200 degree lock is a physical thing inside the wheel and the only wheel I know with it is the Driving Force Pro.
 
you guys don't realize that the wheel will automatically lock to the degree that the car uses. so if you use an X1 or F1 it will be at 200.

The tires may stop turning but the steering wheel will keep going...

That's not true. I drove the Ferrari F1 yesterday and while stopped I checked how much it would turn and it turned all the DFGT's 900 degrees.. :(

I have a DF Pro and even though you can use the button combo to lock the wheel to 200 degrees, the in game steering isn't compatible with it. When doing a sharp turn you can't finish it because the wheel locks so driving is next to impossible. I think the in game steering degree is different depending on the car because even with my DFGT some cars do sharp turns with a lot less turning than others.
 
Can't you get a similar effect by cranking the steering sensitivity adjustment? I can get cars to cut pretty tight corners without much input with my G27 by turning that setting up.

Do other wheels not have that setting?

nope. at speed the wheel needs only a slight turn. the faster you go, the less input is needed. crazy but true.

You can get gold with the DFGT. You just have to use trail braking to help the car rotate, but you'll still use about 180 degrees of wheel turn requiring you to turn your arms into a pretzel.

Not the fastest gold time I've seen on YouTube, but it shows the technique with the DFGT.
